Dear vegas girl, thank you for you suggestion. Yes, I think that adding a chat room would be feasible. Last night I did a little searching and found that I can host a chat room on yahoo, but that it will only remain open as long as I am in there. Joseph is exploring other options (if anyone knows of any, please let us know), but if nothing shows up, I am thinking about setting dates and hours when we can all get together and chat; like designate Mondays at 7pm or something and have all those interested go to yahoo.com. About the insurance companies, I think that there must be something that can be done but, to be honest I don’t know what. The real issue is that there is no single product claiming a therapeutic effect specifically for keratosis pilaris. Usually, the products we use are classified as being of cosmetic nature, and, therefore are not covered by insurance plans. Keralyt, for example, isn’t covered because it is considered a cosmetic BHA. Carmol, Uremol and Amlactin fall into “moisturizers” and are also not covered. LacHydrin is covered only because it claims a therapeutic effect against dry skin disorders, but it isn’t available otc. I remember someone saying that if the urea 20/salicylic acid compound was prescribed by a doctor, you could have it written off as a miscellaneous compound. But don’t take my word for it, I can’t promise that that will work for every insurance plan. If ANYONE has managed to have this compound at least partially covered by their medical plans, PLEASE let us know. In the meantime, I’m going to use this opportunity to go to my dermatologist and request a prescription for the 20urea/3%SA compound and see if my insurance plan will cover it. I hope this helps… and I hope that the prescription plan works… I know how rough it is to dish out the amount of $$ that some of you do on kp products. Thank you vegas girl, for you suggestion, and thank you to all of you out there who are making this community so great! Lots of Love, Mel |

I'm in college so I don't have much to go around. My doc prescribed the combo 4me and it cost about 30$ (before taxes!)... my kp is pretty widespread so i shell out some serious dough. Anyway just letting you know that the Rx thing didn't work 4me... good luck all! |

My mom's and dad's insurance together took care of the SalAcid/carmol mix. The only bad thing is my doctor won't give me any more refills until he researches it further - so I'm just gonna mix it myself from now on. A reminder to everyone using the sal/carmol mix -- remember to shake the tube, bottle, etc. before applying. I tried using it on my cheeks one time without shaking, and I got burned. |
