please help me to help my baby!!!!!!
My daughter is 2. She suffers with KP, as does her young birth mother and birth aunts. I have been to everyone locally, as well as to the University Children's Hospital in our state. Nothing has helped clear up t he KP on her cheeks (also very red), upper arms and thighs. I tried yet another doctor, whom I had never met before last night, who sent me home in tears. She told that I should be reading my daughter a book instead of taking her to appointments and plaing in the sandbox with her instead of smearing ointment on her face!!! I only want to help my child. She has been on LacHydrin 12%, Metro Gel, Protopic, Eledel, Retin A, and Hydrocortisone of all strengths. I was told to use Moisturel on her, but it instantly inflames her skin. I currently use Cetaphil soap during her nightly bath and Lubriderm Seriously Sensitive at noon and after her bath. The papules often become infected to the point where they look like "boils". I am desperate for something to help my daughter. If anyone has any advice for me, PLEASE let me know. I am greatful to have found this website and look forward to hearing from those who understand this frustrating disease! Thanks!!!!! |

Please read Cajun girls reply to KP and self esteem on Sept. 18. She has a wonderful attitude about her KP. She doesn't let her looks dictate how she feels about herself. This is what you should wish for your little girl. |

I know how heart breaking it is when something is wrong with your child. However, there is no cure for KP and what works for one person doesn't nessesarily work for another. I have to say that I agree with the derm who said you should be reading to and playing with your daughter rather than taking her to doctors and smearing creams on her. Which could actually be making it worse. She is only 2 and I doubt that her KP bothers her as much as it does you. I can only imagine that if you choose to focus on her appearance that she will soon feel like something is wrong with her. Instead tell her she's a wonderful person and nurture her tallents and let her be a little girl. There will be plenty of time for your daughter to worry about her KP and if you instill a postive attitude in her, she won't be that bothered by it when she's older and maybe then there will be an effective treatment or a cure. Your daughter is so much more than her KP. Please let her know that you love her no matter what she looks like and just be there for her. Don't let this condition rule your and her time together. You won't get it back. And there's nothing more precious than a 2 year old little girls love. Please quit obsessing over her KP and go give your little girl a great big hug and thank God that she is in your life. |

Jill-- i have a 2 yr. old son who has significant kp also. He has it on his face, too, and his little cheeks are so red sometimes!! I completely understand your fears about this. When i read the other postings here from kids that have kp, especially on their face, and they talk about how they are made fun of and hate how they look, it just breaks my heart because i know that could me my son someday! I read Ashley's reply to you and unless she has a child with kp, i don't think she fully understands how helpless your feel as a mom when there seems to be nothing you can do to help your child or make it better--which is what mommies are supposed to do!! I've tried a bunch of products as well, and recently, i've started using Tea Tree Lotion from a company called Melalucea. It's a medicated lotion but it's not too harsh. My son's cheeks seem much softer and he doesn't cry when i put it on him like he did when i used LacHydrin and Amlactin. The redness it still there but the bumps are smaller. I figure it's a start, and who knows how things will be a few weeks from now but this is what i'm doing now. Please know you're not alone in this and someday, maybe there will be something that can help. Take care. |
