Q FOR MEL

Hi Mel, I was wondering what you use on your KP personally since it seems you have a lot of insight on the disease and are suffering from it yourself. Please tell us if your KP is doing good and how you achieve that. Thanks alot. PS. This web site is fantastic! |

Hey rue rue, actually, my Kp battle consists of a potpourri of different approaches that I employ as my skin deems necessary. I guess that would be the key to how I treat my skin, according to what it seems to need. Right now, for example, I am stocking up on my urea-based lotions for the upcoming winter months that are brutal on my skin. During the summer, when my skin isn’t as dry, I can exfoliate a tiny bit more (loofas seem to just tear at my skin and seem to defeat the whole purpose of reducing redness!). If my skin gets stubborn, for example, I might use a strong salicylic acid gel (keralyt or hydrisalic). As far as creams and lotions go, I use a keratolytic product immediately after coming out of the shower. Depending on how my skin is doing, I alternate between urea 20%, AHA’s like glytone and a simple otc moisturizer (I like Vaseline). This is my standard anti-kp routine that keeps my skin fairly clear (not bump free, but with few enough bumps and minimal redness). However, I recently bought a bar of sulfur soap and I can’t wait to see if it helps and I am also eager to try the urea/sal.acid combo out. If there is anything else you want to know, just ask! lots of love, Mel ps. I posted my regimen earlier… see http://www.keratosispilaris.org/forum/00000067.htm |
