Dermabrasion????

I have a chronic case of KP whereas it covers my entire upper arm, down to half way between my elbow and wrist, my entire buttock region, hips, lower torso, thighs, and entire leg (front and back). I'm wondering in dermabrasion treatments, along with tanning would help with this condition that has gotten worse, instead of better for me over the last 17 years. Thank in advance! Joy ![]() |

Hi, Joy. I tried dermabrasion for just one session several months ago. It was $75 for one session which just covered my upper arms. Just after the treatment, my arms were very red and inflammed looking, and I thought I made a big mistake. I also bought a 10% Glycolic acid solution at the office, and put some on that night before I went to bed. The next morning (no kidding) my arms were incredibly clear and so soft and smooth! So, I think it does help. However, the results lasted less than a week, and then the bumps started coming back. It is an expensive treatment if you have to return week after week. I have found that tanning for about 15-20 minutes a week and use of 18% glycolic acid lotion helps tremendously. Whenever I know my arms need to look good, I go tanning a couple of days ahead and use the lotion and everything looks pretty good. Good luck. |

K, Thank you so much for your expedient response! I'm at the point where I'll try just about anything, I suppose. As I near 30, my condition is hardly getting any better, unfortunately. I've been researching microdermabrasion, as opposed to dermabrasion b/c I'm African-American and it's supposedly "better" for darker skin. I will make an appointment in the very near future with one of the leading dermatologist in the city as I feel as if I'm running out of options. Before I turn 30, I'd like to wear a bikini at the beach and attend all the great pool parties I've missed out on during my 20s. I have a great shape that I'd love to show off, but b/c of my skin "condition" I haven't. Living in Florida, that REALLY, REALLY sucks! LOL Again, thank you so much! ![]() Joy |

Joy, could you let me know what your derm says concerning dermbabrasion? I was considering purchasing the Dermadoctor home dermabrasion kit, but I'm worried about the side effects. I already bought a chemical peel that's sitting on my table, as I later found out it's supposed to be bad for black skin at high concentrations. I'm running out of options right now. Has anything in particular brought about results for you? |
