Carmol 20 question - please respond
I just got my Carmol 20 in the mail yesterday. I am also using sulfur soap and dermarest with 3% SA. I really like the way my skin feels and I am hoping it works for me. My question is this - I have seen in some postings the mention of scrubbing after the lotion, why? I exfoliate with a loofah and the sulfur soap in the shower. I thought over exfoliation is bad and holding in moisture is good. The Carmol makes my skin feel softer and hydrated, so why would I scrub it off? I am a little confused. Also wouldn't that make my skin redder? Please respond if you have any insights. Thanks. |

To vegas girl: When you employ mechanical exfoliation after the application of a moisturizer or product with active ingredients, you are assisting the product to better penetrate your skin and get past the dead skin cells and into to live ones. In all honestly, I feel it is more or less the same if you exfoliate before application as if you exfoliate afterwards-- although exfoliating with the product might be a little more effective because you are essentially pushing the Carmol into your skin. Please note that exfoliation is a very personal, individual routine that can only be assessed by the exfoliatee. Therefore don’t scrub yourself red (well… not too red!). I’ve found that overscrubbing is counter productive for my kp. The carmol won’t go away if you exfoliate, some of the excess lotion might be absorbed by the loofa, brush or other applicant you use, but not a significant amount. If you really feel that the exfoliator is absorbing too much, you can add a little more on (after exfoliating--- just use your hand) but be careful not to over do it. Here is a link to one of jc’s postings that goes into the possible repercussions of over moisturizing: http://www.keratosispilaris.org/forum/00000405.htm Lots of love, Mel |

If you are putting the lotion on by itself, you don't need to scrub. The past posts are refurring to adding salicylic acid into the carmol 20 tube and applying and then using a loofah to help loosen the plugs. You can scrub if you want to, I noticed it helped it along more than if I just put lotion on, but only on my arms. I didn't scrub on my legs. |
