What dermadoctor said about red spots.....

I emailed Dermadoctor to see if they knew what the red dots were and how to alleviate them. Many of us girls seem to shave our legs and still have red dots but no bumps. Plus of course, red dots everywhere else. I copied what they emailed me, btw Mederma is a lotion that they sell on their site- The red spots are often a combination of remnant inflammation as well as some blood flow to the area. I cannot absolutely assure you that this will resolve; it is one of those time will tell problems associated with KP. However, there are definitely things to try to help. You may want to try Mederma which helps reduce the post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (when red/purple) associated with skin concerns. You can also try a topical Vitamin K product like K-Derm Gel as if this is due more to vascular flow it may help. Do wear SPF 30 daily as the sun will try to darken these spots you want to fade away. Anytime skin discoloration is present you may need to wait several months or more to determine if Mother Nature will do something. Keep up with your skin care products as necessary to keep the bumps resolved. Finally since KP is associated with an eczematous background, the use of prescription Protopic or Elidel may be something to consider to help try to squelch the underlying inflammation.Emily again- they also said to be careful using keralyt gel (6%sal acid) because it thins the skin. I plan on only using it until this tube is empty. they have a product called epilyt and I am going to try using that at night, and Carmol or other moisturizer during the day. I have been using keralyt gel and Carmol 20 for almost 2 months. I have seen great improvement with less bumps and slightly less redness. I only use carmol 20 on my legs, etc. I use the gel and lotion only on my arms, where the bumps were the worst. Good Luck!!!! |
