Hey Wesley, I completely understand what you are going through. I'm only 18 and I have struggled with the same condtion for way too long. I have the red face (cheeks) all the time but no bumps. I also have the thing with the eyebrows as well as the bumps all over almost the rest of my body. It's extremely frustrating. But think about this once. If you take our skin condition and compare it to some of the other severe condtions, ours isn't really that bad. I just hope we can find some type of cure or a way to reduce the redness of the condition. Keep hope alive buddy.

Redness in my face

I have redness in my jaw line only and the hair doesn't grow there anymore. I was on Accutane for about 5 months which caused my hair to stop growing. The Dermo calls it alopecia aereata. But she doesn't know about the redness. She prescribed elocon which is antinflammatory, but it actually turned my face more red. Any body know anything about this?

Elocon is one of the medium potency strength topical cortisones creams. Acts as an anti-inflammatory. it should be used SHORT TERM ONLY as long term usage of any topical cortisone cream (mild, medium or high) will lead to possilbe further skin damage. Hopefully your derm has told you not to use it more than 2 weeks or so. I understood it to be a little too potent for facial use, though. If your dermatologist feels that you need cortisone to clear up the redness - there are less potent types that may be better for usage on the face I think.

I had a rash on my lower leg once and my derm prescribed Elocon to use for a week. Worked just fine on that area.

I'm just your average "girl" in her 30's who has been dealing with Rosacea (the lovely blushing cheeks and my eyes have been affected a bit) and Keratosis (on the upper arms and to a minimal degree on the thighs & knees a bit). Don't have a medical background(unless you count years of various treatments from the derm. for everything from rosacea to minor acne to keratosis, ya da)

A few years ago, I started with a dermatologist for the minor minor facial acne & arm keratosis I had. She was a lovely woman but kind of had the "kitchen sink" method of treatment and gave me lots of stuff to try (including DesOwen - a cortisone lotion). At the same time she gave me the Elocon for the Keratosis on my arms. Just this year, the Rosacea decided to rear it's head and the blushing became more significant - my own theory that this was due to off and on long term (but sporatic) usage of the cortisone lotion. well..sigh. I thought i was going to look like Santa Claus for life and THEN the Keratosis showed up on my knees and thighs. It's a double whammy folks.

I started doing research on rosacea & keratosis, switched to another dermatologist, threw away all my cortisone lotions and creams that had accumulated and started dealing with things like new cleansers, lotions, treatments for sensitive skin like moi had.

I have to say i've gotten some good advice from both this board and a rosacea chat board and my new derm. The good things i learned were on the basics like cleansers, makeup, moisturizers, water and most importantly to focus on calming myself down and trying to accept what i've got to deal with and not making it the center of my life. I feel like i've got a decent handle on the rosacea with the new products i'm trying (i'm only pink once in a while for now) and I'm hoping that I can say the same for the keratois dots sometime in the near future.

All best,
dana
