I just started using the Sal/sulfur soap last month and I have the same Kp type as you. I use the sulfer soap before I go to bed(cuz it smells funny) and make sure I'm smooth everyday(shavingwise). I think that it is effective more for the bumps to go away than the redness, even though I did not have much bumps before, it has made my skin really smooth. I have the same goal as you, with fading the redness the only thing that works so far for me is tanning. I'll keep you posted if I find anything else.

that's what I would like to find out, what are the red dots and how do you get rid of them. Other people say use hydrocortisone cream. But a few people just posted NOT to use it, that they had problems or it ruined their skin over time. I tried hydro cream for about 3 days and went back to regular lotion in the mornings. Maybe I will try emailing derma doctor and see if she happens to know......

Im in the same boat as you cuz I do not know exactly what makes the red spots or what they are. I dont use tanning creams because I dont want to pick the wrong one and turn orange. I noticed that when I was in the sun and got tan naturally (whether from swimming or the beach)the red spots blend in more and some appear to fade away. Im going to go fake and bake next week so I'll see if that helps. Summers almost gone so what I really want is a cream or something that can tone down the redness at least. I havent tried hydrocortisone yet. Maybe people can post what they have used to reduce redness cuz theat is my main problem.

Topical cortisone treatments are good and bad. Good - they act as an anti-inflammatory. That's why they are usually prescribed to remedy rashes or hives. Usually only prescribed to be used until the rash disappears (and that's usually not more than a week or so)

Bad - long term & frequent usage can cause the skin to thin out making you more susceptible to bruising, spider veins, cracked skin, loss of elasticity, etc. etc. Also, if it's used over large areas of the body, your chance of it being absorbed into your blood system is increased. this can lead to some potentially serious problems - the same kind as you can have with injected cortisones.

SO, just as an opinion, but if you can find a way to treat the KP without having to retort to cortisone usage then you'll probably be better off in the long run.

good luck
