Red Cheeks and washing your face
Well I know that many others out there struggle with the same thing I do. Redness on the cheeks and even eyebrows for me. My question is, What do you guys use to wash your face that doesn't irritate things or cause the redness to flare up? I have tried many different soaps and cleansers but have yet to find one that really actually helps. I'm currently using Neutrogena's extra gentle cleanser. My face becomes more red after using it but after I moisturize the redness seems to decrease. I've also heard that some of you don't even wash the face. Please let me know what you guys use or what's seems to work for this condition. It is extremely frustrating especially when you are still in high school. I'm in the same boat as Mark. I feel for you man. So please help. |

Hey Ryan, okay, I am going to try to sell you on my face cleaner one more time :0) It is called Real Purity by Philosophy which was developed by a chemist/Dr. It is about $30 a bottle but it lasts FOREVER (6 months into it and I am only 1/2 way through the bottle). Anyway, it deep cleans your pores, fragrance free (which I think we wll need) and it is made with a lot of natural stuff like sage oil, coconut, etc (check out wwww.philosophy.com). But it is EXTREMELY gentle and one of the few cleansers out there that does not dry out your face (you know that tight feeling?). I also hear that Oil of Olay cleanser for sensitive skin is good. Aveeno is good too, but don't get the bar cleanser, you know, bacteria 'n' stuff. I use that in the morning when I shower and then I do the Biore wipes etc that I explained to mark below in the pm. I have also tried Murad's acne kit (claims it is for KP as well as acne)and although it is GREAT for the bumps, it did not do jack for the redness and for what it costs (about $90) it is so not worth it. Also, the best aloe for the redness is straight from an aloe plant. but aloe is good stuff. Oh and by the way, you guys out there in high school...don;t stress the new year. Let me tell you that when I went to my 10 year reunion, the best looking guys were the ones with skin problems, short, you name it in high school. They all grew in 10 years, had great complexions and were NICE. had great jobs and very pretty wives, no KIDDING. Do not judge you or your quality of life over the high school years...it is 4 years out of 80 and the people you see in school will not be anything to you when you start college and beyond. Go out and have a GREAT Labor Day weekend- all of you! Hey, I am hitting the beach in a 2 piece bikini, KP and all baby! whoohooo! |

I wash my face every other day with eucerin washing lotion and every other day just with water (not too cold, not too hot!) I once read that most soaps you can buy are actually too harsh on the skin of most people, and it's better to wash just with water, which is the best cleanser of the world, they wrote... |

Hey there: I have Rosacea (which effects the face) and the Keratosis on the arms. Anyway, my Rosacea skin is super-sensitive and prone to flushing so I i've been through a HOST of cleansers in a trial and error way. The best one I've found is Oil of Olay Sensitive Skin Foaming Wash. It's Oil Free, Fragrance Free and doesn't have any harsh chemicals or soaps. I wash with room temperature water twice a day and no more. The water temp. has been important to me. Too hot and obviously you will flush and too cold has a backlash effect where in response to the cold, my skin tries to heat up. Others (OTC) i've tried that have caused me to flush were Cetaphil (face & general liquid cleanser), Neutrogena (all their products have caused me problems), Purpose & Dermalogica. NO BAR soaps - they are harsher than the liquids. I have heard the AVEENO Creamy Baby Cleanser is supposed to be great also - very mild (after all it's meant for baby skin) |
