Just a bit of info that may help. There is a rare variation of KP called Keratosis Pilaris Atrophicans faciei (not sure if this is what people call rubra faciei) I have had this conditon since age 14. My eyebrows and cheeks were always red and eventually by my late teens my cheeks had become scarred and pitted and the hair on my outer eyebrows had disappeared. To complicate things the pitting on the cheeks can be know as 'atrophoderma vermiculata' or'Honeycomb Atrophy'. The stuff with the eyebrows is known as 'ulerythema ophryogenes'. I was not diagnosed until my mid-thirtys so was unable to try any treatments to prevent the scarring of my cheeks. However since then I have read of and tried two treatments listed in medical journal articles. The first is oral Istrotein (Roaccutane) and the second is pulse dye laser treatment. The roaccuatne did not help me but may help others. The pulse dyed laser treatment did reduce the redness for me however. The attached web site lists both articles I have mentioned. All the best. http://www.angelfire.com/journal2/sadhelp/kp.htm |

I apparently have KP in my eyebrows as well. I have always had the added joy of no eyebrows (well, ok, maybe 10 individual hairs per eyebrow) in addition to the wonderfully appealing bumps and red dots on most of my skin. Never occurred to me until i started visiting this site that they are symptoms of the same skin condition. Have you found anything to increase hair growth in the eyebrows? |

Yes the redness and loosing of hair on the eyebrows is called 'Ulerythema Ophryogenes'. We me the eyebrows started going at age 14. As I was not diagnosed until age 35 I really didn't try anything to prevent the hair loss. It may be worth seeing a dermatologist to see if something is available. Also do you have like small 'pits' on your cheeks? With me the scarring of the cheeks came in my mid twenties (from memory). It may be worth speaking to a dermatologist also about ways to prevent this in case you also have 'atrophoderma vermiculata'. |

Ann, I had never really noticed, but if i look real close, i suppose i do have small "pits" on my cheeks. I suppose compared to the stuff on my arms and legs, it just doesn't compare! And with my face, i have always focused on my lack of eyebrows! I am considering seeing a dermatologist, but just haven't seen enough evidence that they seem to know what's going on! Besides, at 42, i think i have finally accepted myself and just have other things i need to focus my energies on for now. Of course, if i can find someone willing to transplant eyebrows like they do on the scalp in the Hairclub for Men, i might change my mind! |
