Using this mixture of CARMOL 20 & salicylic acid, do you apply it generously on the KP affected areas or a thin layer?

Hello Me, I just wanted to add that you probably will need a prescription for the mixture as every drug store I called said the salicylic acid powder is by prescription only. The pharmacist should mix it so the final combination is 3% salicylic acid by weight. Good luck!

The original posting for this was on June 18th (I think). Anyways, I just copied it here. I hope no one minds. This seems to be a frequent question. So, here it is.

This remedy worked for my 9 year old daughter -- really well! It was recommended by the dermatology department at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Please try it - it is inexpensive, and results are wonderful. After my daughter's pediatrician told me that my daugher "just has to live with KP", my fiance did some investigating. He contacted MA General Dematology Department...and after about 2 weeks using this cream we saw big improvement. Now, she is almost KP-free. Here it is: Buy a tube of Carmol 20 cream. You have to buy this thru a website -- lots of them sell this cream -- it is about $7.00 - $8.00 a tube. This cream's active ingredient is urea. Urea, I beleive, acts as a powerful moisturizer. Urea is acidic too, and it is found, I think, in our urine. Buy the 20 version, not the 10 version. Any Carmol over 20 requires a prescription. BUT YOU DO NOT NEED A PRESCRIPTION FOR Carmol 20. Now bring this tube of Carmol 20 to your local pharmacist. Ask him to mix into it Salicytic Acid. This works as an exfoliant - dissolving and lifting the KP plug ("bump&quot that has already been hugely softened (moisturized) by the urea. Salicytic acid also works as a pyretic - "takes the red out" of the bump. My pharmacist mixed this up for me with no problem. Salicytic Acid is also NON-prescription. The reason you have to ask the pharmacist to mix this up for you, is because there is no cream on the market that has BOTH these active ingredients in it. There are creams that have one, or the other, in them. The dermatologist at MA General said that this combination works wonderfully IF you use it consistently....start out putting it on everyday. As times goes on, and the KP is almost gone, or gone, you only have to use it perhaps twice a week. After you apply this mixture to your skin, let it sit and absorb for about 1 minute. Then buff it with a loufa sponge -- NOT a plastic buff puff. A real LOUFA SPONGE. You know - those tan, hard, sponge things. You can buy this in most drug stores, or beauty supply places, or Walmarts or whatever. I guess the loufa "s****es" up the softened dead skin, or keratin, or plug. This worked for my daughter. She was really embarassed of her legs and arms -- mostly her legs. Spring was here, and she would not wear shorts, she felt so ashamed and embarassed in front of her girlfriends. Now, 6 weeks later, she is wearing a bathing suit, shorts everyday! She does the cream and buffing about 3-4 nites a week now. Her legs are smooth and clear, except for some still slighty-there stubborn red bumps on the backs of her thighs. Her calves are all cleared up, and also the front of her thighs. Her arms still have some, and that is because she did not start treating them til later (they were less severe), and she didn't keep up as a good a regimen with them. She is only 9, and I have to help her keep disciplined about this. It worked for her, and she is really happy about it. She got this KP from her dad. He has it. I have smooth, soft skin, and I think that always made it so much more noticeable to her that her skin was "bumpy and yucky." I felt badly for her, but I couldn't get any help from anywhere. I am so happy my fiance found this cure for her. I hope you try it,too.
