Question For Those Who Have Had Success Cutting Out Dairy....

I have heard on these boards and elsewhere that a dairy allergy might be connected to keratosis pillaris. For me this makes perfect sense as I was diagnosed as being lactose intollerant when i was 12, thought i grew out of it a year later as my stomach pains were gone. However, with no stomach pains came red and skin colored bumps on my arms, back, and chest which have been getting worse through my 20's. I never made the connection with dairy but reading threads has given me hope that this might be the cause. I'm going to try eliminating dairy from my diet for the next few months to see if i get any results. My question is this...Have any of you who have had success eliminating dairy attempted to eat dairy with a lactaid pill or something of that sort. I'm wondering if its a problem of not having the proper enzymes to digest dairy or if the KP is an allergic reaction to dairy.

I agree with Seth. A good nutritionist will help you. I believe this whole thing may be nutritionally based. There is an allergy test where they take blood, send it off to the lab and you get a report of all the foods your allergic to. Several years back this test ran around $600.00. It's expensive, but it may be well worth it. The people that I know who went through this (including a chiropractor who is more nutritionally aware than anyone I've ever met) discovered they had allergies to all kinds of foods that they never expected. Though dairy is something a lot of people are allergic to, there can be other underlying allergies also. I'll check into the company we did the allergy testing through...I just can't remember their name right now. Please post again and let us know how you do with the change in diet. Good Luck!

I quit dairy a year ago and it made a HUGE difference. I too was allergic to it as a kid, but then sort of just "grew out of it"...not so it appears. it resurfaced as a problem in my 20's as KP. I saw results within the first month. I would suggest going through a nutrionist...if you follow their advice, I think you'll experience better long-term results.

A naturopathic doctor told me of a thing called allergy clearing. I'm not really sure how it's done or if it works. Has anyone else heard of this?
