I have a question regarding skincare and cosmetics. I haven't tried
the brands that are available at online retailers, but I would
definitely like to since I've been uphappy with those I am currently
using. However, I have sensitive skin, oiliness in the t-zone, slight
acne scars on my cheek, and dryness everywhere else. Could you
recommend any cleansers, skin whiteners, soaps, toners,
moisturizers, masques that would be appropriate for my skin type? I
also have slight bumps on my arms due to sensitive skin, is there any
way to hide them?

Although it's always tough to recommend treatment products over the
internet (without being able to magnify your smiling face and pour
over your pores), there are a couple of 'winning' products that I can
always suggest, because I know that you can't lose if you use them.
If you do have a chance, however, to come in to a Bliss for a
consultation, we'd love to give you an in-person lesson on skin and
the art of maximum-effect maintenance. First, the easy stuff:
1) those 'bumps' on your arm probably belong to the Keratosis Pilaris
family. (don't worry the Pilaris's are not missing their bumps, they
want you to keep them.) Seriously though, many women suffer from what
I call 'back of the arm bumps', and dread wearing sleeveless shirts
because of it. We've found that if you mix some 'Tend Skin'
(available through BlissOut) with a regular strength body lotion in a
ratio of 1:1, the bumps clear up and disappear. Use your products
each day when you get out of the shower, and watch them fade fast!
2) Oiliness in the T-Zone is a darn common complaint. Almost everyone
is a little more oily there than anywhere else. To tackle this
problem at home, I'd recommend regular exfoliation to keep the dead
cells and oil from building up (Sweep from Remède is our favorite
exfoliator), a weekly oil-absorbing mask (try Astara's Green, Blue,
or Violet - they all rule), and a mattifying moisturizer just for
your problem oily area.
3) I'm not sure if your slight acne scarring is actually 'textural'
or 'pigmentation'. The best effect for acne scarring (without side
effects) comes from microdermabrasion. We've seen clients after only
afew treatments with incredible results, much smoother surface skin,
and less pigmentation. To prevent future problems, try Remède
Purifying Active Amplifier. It double-teams as an acne-fighting
formula that also reduces the chance of pigmention post-breakout.

Again, it's tough to recommend a moisturizer for you without being
able to assess your skin up close, so I won't attempt to guess. (What
good is an uneducated guess about face goo?) Just remember to include
SPF in your summer skin routine. And start now, so that in 40 years,
you don't have to e-mail me to ask what you can do about wrinkling.
I hope my advice has fit you to a T.

: I'M WONDERING IF ANYONE OUT THERE HAS HAD ANY LUCK WITH ANY
TREATMENTS FOR THEIR KERATOSIS PILARIS? I AM 29 AND HAVE HAD IT SINCE
BIRTH. FROM WHAT I'VE SEEN OF OTHER PEOPLE WHO HAVE THIS, I THINK
MINE IS QUITE EXTREME. I HAVE IT ALL OVER MY ARMS (FROM THE BEGINNING
OF THE WRIST TO MY SHOULDERS) AND ALL OVER MY LEGS (FROM THE ANKLES
RIGHT UP TO THE TOP OF MY THIGHS) AND ON MY BUTTOCKS. AS YOU CAN
PROBABLY GUESS, IT'S BEEN QUITE DISTRESSING TO ME MY WHOLE LIFE. I
KEEP READING THAT IT GOES AWAY WITH AGE AND I WAS TOLD WHEN I WAS
YOUNGER THAT IT WOULD PROBABLY CLEAR UP IN MY MID-TWENTIES. AS I
APPROACH 30 I SEE ABSOLUTELY NO IMPROVEMENT WHATSOEVER. ANY MEDICIAL
ADVICE THAT ANYONE (DOCTORS OR PATIENTS) COULD GIVE ME WOULD BE
GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Hi,

I have also had this problem for years. During the summer time I
would never wear shorts or tank tops. Early this year I discovered a
product called Tend Skin. It is used for ingrown hairs. Being that
Keratosis Pilaris is kind of like ingrown hairs I tried it and it
worked. This summer I was finally able to wear shorts. When you start
using it you might think it is not working but all of a sudden you
can notice the bumps disappearing. This is my daily routine: Shower
in the morning and use Neutrogena body oil as I get out of the
shower. Then I also put Vitamin E oil all over my body. At night,
before I go to bed I put the Tend Skin on were needed. I also noticed
that shaving also irritates the keratosis so I now shave down not
upward. The Tend Skin also helps clear up scars and discoloration. It
costs about $50 for a big bottle which in the beginning you will go
through fast but once it starts working you only have to use it every
other day. Go to www.tendskin.com to get mor!
e information and Good Luck. Remember if you try it give it a while
to work. You might think it is not working but it really is. Get back
on the message board and tell me how it goes. By the way, I am not a
salesperson for tend skin, I am a person that suffered from Keratosis
since I can remember and was very depressed about it. I now try to
tell everyone I can about the product so everyone can wear shorts and
be comfortable with themselves.
