The drier the better, anyone else?
I've had this condition for 25 years and the only time it gets better is when my skin is really dried out (ie. camping in the desert or when I suntan). Is there anyone else out there whose KP resonds better to a drier situation and who has had success with any drying products? Let me know what you used. Also, anyone know of the brand names of some lighteners & brighteners (preferably ones found in Canada)? |

My KP seems to be better when my skin is dry. My KP is more like little pimples. I do not have the roughness many associate with KP. |

My skin reacts very badly to the heavy moisturisers recommended for this disorder, in fact I find they boost the inflammation and infection while also clogging the pores further. I also get patches of dermatitis after using heavy moisturisers. For years before I knew I had this disorder on the face, I used no moisturiser and to be honest this regime was as good as any other I've found in controlling the KP. Some dermatologists say that the best approach to treating KP is 'benign neglect'. A month or so ago, someone posted Paula Begoun's advice for KP sufferers (Paula of 'The Beauty Bible' fame), and she recommended treatment with salicylic acid and Benzoyl Peroxide, but no moisturiser unless absolutely required. So who knows? |

I have KP on my back worse than anywhere on my body and it is very dry (even flaky sometimes). I have noticed that sun improves it but I'm not sure it is due to the drying effect of the sun but some other property the sun imparts, not sure what. I've also tried the benign neglect thing. Didn't work for me at all. I'm 40 and have had this FOREVER, though it improves and worsens for reasons that are unknown to me. Sometimes it will get better for awhile and I will think that the improvement was caused by something I was doing. Only to have that same 'something' not work later on when the KP flares up again. |

I've shared the same experience. The drier the better. I've been using this product called TendSkin that is used to discourage in-grown hair. (Sold at tendskin.com website & I've seen it in beauty product stores & spas) It gently dries out skin and exfoliates. I've noticed some improvement, but it doesn't eradicate the condition entirely. |
