Many years ago I got a tape from my friend called Dead Doctors don't lie. She gave it to me because at the time my grandmother was in alot of pain from her arthritus (spelling ?)and she said there was some info on the tape on how to cure it with items from the grocery store. It worked for my grandmother. There was also some other very interesting things on the tape regarding other problems that could be easily cured. Dr. Wallach's believe is there is a cure for everything and he thinks most doctors are full of ****. I saw the tape last week so I decided to email him to see if he knew of anything that would help KP. This is the response I received. I do not know if it will help or not but I thought I would pass it along just in case someone out there would like to try curing there kp with vitiams and minerals. Dr. Wallach "Dead Doctors Don't Lie", "Keratosis "is a "goose bump" like build up in the openings of the hair follicles. These pinhead sized "plugs" are found in the greatest number on the backs of the arms, thighs, and buttocks. The "orthodox" doctors claim that treatment is unnecessary, however, keratosis is, in fact, a symptom of a chronic vitamin A deficiency. Treatment of keratosis includes vitamin A. Take Beta-Carotene at 25,000 IU (kids) 300,000 IU(adults) per day. Beta-carotene is converted in the body to vitamin A and is usually used in supplements. Also take zinc at 5 to 15 mg. t.i.d. (t.i.d. means 3 times and day.) Increase protein at 120 gms per day, and don't forget the base line nutrition program." A base line nutritional program means that you should be getting all 90 essential nutrients every day. The best way to do this is through supplementation. I've been doing some more research into this and it looks like there is some validity to using Vitamin A & Beta Carotene to treat KP. I found this detailed link which mentions keratosis and Vitamin A in a few places. http://home.caregroup.org/clinical/altmed/interactions/Nutrients/Vitamin_A.htm It also makes sense because people seem to be getting good results with Retin-A and Isotretinoin (a Vit. A derivative) has been shown to be effective for conditions like rosacea. I think this could be promising. Rick. |

Just a note to keep in mind that Vitamin A is a fat soluble vitamin and can be toxic at higher dosages. It can also have profound effects, studies show, in pregnant women who ingest greater than 10,000 IU of the vitamin/day. Just something to keep in mind. |

Andrea, In the posting, Dr Wallach was recommending high doses of Beta Carotene - not Vit. A. Beta Carotene is a Vitamin A precursor which the body transforms into Vitamin A as needed. I have not heard about any toxicity levels of Beta Carotene, though you are right that high doses of Vit. A over a prolonged period are not safe. I think high doses of Beta Carotene are often used in tanning pills since they can give the body a bit of a golden glow! I'm not sure if this happens with all beta carotene though. I have long believed that us KPers are lacking something fundamental in our diets that our bodies are unable to create. Perhaps this is it. It's just a shame that he states his case so categorically without ever saying that he has seen KP cured through beta carotene. I guess once again it's left to us to do the experimentation! Rick, thanks for correcting me. I misread Dr. Wallach's regimen and assumed that Vitamin A was recommended. |

If your KP is clearing up, that is really good news. Like Rick, I'd like to know what doses you're taking for all your supplements. It definitely sounds worthwhile. |

Hi Guys, I am currently using twin labs multi-vitamin, MSM 1000mg 2x a day (this stuff has sulfur in it and is great for skin and hair), beta carotene 25,000 2x a day(these tablets are so tiny that I don't mind taking them) I actually want to up my beta carotene but am not sure. I actually did start higher 100,000 a day for about a month but someone told me that it can prove toxic. I am now hearing not the same for beta carotene. Gonna do more research for that.Cysteine 30 mg 2x a day, zinc 60mg 1x a day and Flaxseed oil (1 tlbs) which equals 3000mg a day! Rick, its true the topicals could have started to do a better job I agree but I look at my skin everyday and know that these supplements have made a big difference. Not only with my skin but my hair and nails! Now with this damn KP I know different things work for different people but all of these things are great for your skin. I'm thinking about adding even more supplements eventually for overall health. I will keep u all posted and feel free to post me anytime. Tiffani |

Hi Rick, The beta carotene is 25,000 and in a very small red gel cap. I am suprised that you can't find beta in a higher iu. But you know what- I was just in the vitamin store and the guy told me that they were out of the 25,000 so had to get 10,000 but they are so tiny don't mind taking them. Let me know how much you will be starting with and will you be going as high as 100,000? Thanks. My skin is really looking better every day. I don't want to jinx myself but.............. Tiffani |

Hi Tiffani, It sounds as if you're taking a really good range of supplements there - any one of which could lead to skin improvement. I guess it's also possible that your continued use of the topicals could also be finally be having an effect. But it's interesting that you're using the Beta Carotene which was indicated in the article as being especially effective for KP. The dosages are confusing though. It's hard to find Beta Carotene in capsules more than 7,500IU so to take 200-300,000IU per day would mean taking handfuls of pills and nobody should be doing that without really knowing what they're doing. Maybe it's not necessary to take that much to get the benefits anyway. I've just bought some Beta Carotene as well as regular Vitamin A and am going to start taking them in reasonable doses. I'd be interested to hear what dose you've been taking and whether it's in tablet form or gelcaps. I'm really happy it seems to be working so well for you. Regards, Rick |

Tiffani, Thanks for the information on the doses. I'm going to start with some of the supplements you've mentioned and -fingers crossed- perhaps my KP will show signs of improvement as well. And if it doesn't, well at least you've found a treatment that suits you and that is great news in itself. |
