Sal Acid Online troubles

I ordered the Sal. Acid powder from the website that nicole gave and they emailed me saying that they cancelled my whole order because you need a prescription for the Sal. Acid. Did anyone else who ordered get this response? |

Someone said hocks.com will do it for $3 more. You might want to check that out. Read my posting in reply to Kathleen (17 Jul) before asking them to compound it. good luck! jc |

JC, I read your post below on July 17th regarding the mixture that Brynn's mom used. What if I use Salicylic Acid liquid 17%. I read the post from Brynn's mom/Richard stating you can mix 1/2 ounce of liquid SA (it says the SA should sit out for 3 hours before mixing) with one 3oz tube of carmol 20. Do you know if that will have the same effect as the powder? I am going to go ahead and mix it but I wanted to make sure it is the same. |

Yes, the amount of salcylic acid in .5 oz of the wart removing liquid will yield (nearly) 3% salicylic acid in 3 oz. of carmol. The problem (as Richard stated) is that there is waaay too much solvent in the wart stuff. You need to get rid of the excess solvent to prevent it from drying your skin out or making the overall formula too “liquidy”. Another thing is that, depending on the brand, some will have rheology modifiers (gums/gellants/thickeners) that will make proper mixing almost impossible. I would use a separate jar to mix them together (using a spatula). The goal is to get rid of sovents over what needed for complete solubilization of the SA. that is, for .5 oz of 17% SA, you need to evaporate .2oz of the TOTAL liquid. This will leave you with .3oz of liquid. I couldn’t say how long you need to let it sit to achieve this since it will depend on the alcohol/ethanol ratio, temperature, and exposed area of the liquid (ie. It will evaporate quicker on a cup than it will on a test tube). The point is you need to evaporate about .2 oz (out of the whole .5oz). You DON”T want to evaporate the liquid SA in a narrow container (narrow bottle or test tube) because some of the SA wll crystallize on the walls of the container and be near impossible to get out. I hope this helps!! |
