I don't know if anyone has posted this already, but sweat contains urea. I'm wondering if this is why some people have noticed an improvement in their KP when exercising regularly, taking saunas, etc. I don't know if there is actually enough urea in our sweat to have an effect, but it may be worth looking into. Are there any athletes out there that have severe KP?

Where did you read that sweat has urea??... Even if it does, I doubt that it would product a whole lot of it… probably not enough to make a real difference… plus the more you would sweat, the less urea it would contain (I think)… probably the sweating action helps the kp (it does mine!) by unclogging the pores…. Sort of like a skin-Draino… plus , have you ever noticed how your pores totally open when you are hot (and, consequently, sweating)?? That probably helps too… I mean, I’m no dermotologist or anything but I took bioloy in college (500 years ago) and I what I remember…

Wow… there is so much out there about sweat and kp… I vaguely remember someone posting something very simmilar to Alexis’ a (long) while back… The situation remains tha many people DO experience a slight to moderate alliviation when engaging in sweat-producing activities. One (among many other) reason is that (when talking about saunas) you are basically fooling your body into thinking that it has a fever… this activates certain defense mechanisms which, in turn boost your immune system. A healthy immune system reflects wonderfully in your skin. Saunas also help release toxins, reduce stress, increase circulation and consequently oxygenation of the tissues and cells of your skin. All of which are fundamental for healthy skin. The skin-Draino theory isn’t exactly accurate. See, there are two kinds of sweat glands, Aprocrine and Eccrine. The aprocrine are attached to the hair follicles and are found underneath the arms and in the genital areas. They are more active (aka open and sweat producing) during emotional chages (such as tension, fear or sexual arousal)… the Eccrive (sweat) glands can be found ANYWHERE on the body, primarily on the forehead, the palms of the hands, and the soles of the feet (they are what make your tennis shoes to lethal!!) Unlike aprocrine glands, the eccrine are NOT connected to a hair follicle AND have a separate pore and duct for emitting its secretions and bringing to the skins surface. Because of this, their secretions, or their activity of emitting secretions IS NOT “unplugging” your pores and thus not improving your kp. If we had aprocrine glands on our arms and other kp areas, then this draino theory could be real. However, this doesn’t mean that using a steam room or sauna won’t help… actually the complete opposite is true They assist detoxification by eliminating toxins. SAUNAS, like I menioned, will help by making your body think it’s sick, and STEAM ROOMS do this PLUS they soften your skin’s stratum corneum (the combo of keratin and dead skin cells) with its extremely high levels of humidity… follow this with your accustomed mechanical exfoliation (scrubb a dub dub!) and you should see some quick results (excelent for anticipated emergencies like weddings and stuff!) So… indulge away!!
