Is KP Rubra Faceii a condition alone or only with Karatosis?

I have been trying to find out more about the Rubra Faceii thing, but all I find is photos. Does Karatosis Pilaris Rubra Faceii exsist as a condition by itself, or does it just go with KP? It seems like many of you have both. My red face started in childhood, but the KP bumps came 30 years later. |

I don't think anyone knows the answer to this. Certainly we have been given this term "Keratosis Pilaris Rubra Faceii" to describe the symptoms of facial redness and flushing in people who also have KP. The complicating factor is why so many people with KP don't also have these symptoms. I have also searched in vain on the net for more info about KPRF but so far have only found the same couple of photos. Hopefully through this board we can start to compile some information. |

I have KP Rubra Faceii in addition to KP on my arms, legs, and lower back. I think KPRF is a kind of KP, it just happens to happen on the face, and plus redness. Some people have it with KP on other body parts, others have it just alone. It varies, just like regular KP for different people on different body parts. |

I am no medical expert but I have read a lot in this area as I have KP on my face as far as I am aware Rubra Faceii is also known as 'Keratosis Pilaris Atrophicans Faciei' and if on the cheeks 'atrophoderma vermiculata or honeycomb atropy or sometimes even atropoderma reticulata'. If it effects the eyebrows and caused hair loss is is often called Ulerythema Ophryogenes'. I read an article which listed all the different names. Apparently as this condition is quite rare several different names began to be used in different parts of the world. As far as I understand the above conditions are a kind of mutation of the ordinary KP - not sure if that is the right word to use. These conditions can often occur with other ectodermal defects whereas KP is quite common as is not associated with other congenital abnormalities. |
