I SUFFER FROM BOTH ACNE AND KP

I too did not have a problem with KP until after my second child, age 31. I too had gained 60 pounds...and with it seemed to come KP. Unfortunately, I thought it was hormonal due to the pregnancy and did not get diagnosed by a dermatologist until almost a year later...after it had had a chance to scar and worsen. I am now 35, have since lost the weight and my KP is better, but still not under control. I also suffer from very oily skin and moderate acne on my face and upper back and chest so the dry skin theory doesn't relate to my situation. Anyone else have this combined problem? I am currently taking oral Erythromycin for my acne and using a combination of cortisone and antibiotic creams on my arms daily which helps immensly. Even when the KP and Acne are under some control, I battle the redness and scars. I rarely go out without makeup. AND, my two boys, ages 3 and 11 have a mild version of KP already!

Hey there, I'm in the same boat, fun huh? My skin too is extremely oily plus the fact that I have HUGE pores makes for a chest and nose full of blackheads but only a few pimples here and there. I've never actually taken anything prescriptions wise for it. I just use different body washes and it helps a little but not much. I will always have oily skin so I guess I'll always have acne related problems. I've had the KP my whole life(I'm 31, no children) so I really can't relate to those who suddenly have to deal with it after years of having normal skin. In a way I imagine it must be worse, remembering how it used to look. I use urea and Neo Strata creams plus an anti-inflammatory to help control my KP. It is working quite well so far but I have no idea how long it will do so. I'm just playing by ear here. Anyway, just know that there are tons of people in the same boat as you. Take care.

Hi Jennifer, check the DIPROSALIC thread further on down the page. That is what I use. My sister and I both posted threads on it. She posts under JMCD. Yes, my KP is or was very inflamed all over my legs and arms. Actually it is still on my legs because I haven't tried it there yet but it works well for my arms. I would say they are around 85% better. There are still a few stubborn ones here and there. Again, if you read the Diprosalic thread it explains what it is and the possible dangers/side effects of long term use etc. The info. in those threads simply comes from my experiences so it might be different for someone else, I don't know. There are also links provided to web pages which classify steroid creams(that is what it is often referred to as) according to potency. Again, I don't think this would be a necessary treatment for someone who does not have infammation(red bumps) although it has helped with both the redness and the bumps. Read the threads below, do your own research and talk to your doctor. Good luck.

Do you think that you might have Rosacea instead of KP on your face? Could it ber both? I get acne when I am out in the sun. Sun is supposed to be good for KP, so I can't explain what happens to me. However, I am that person who keeps warning others that KP can be caused by other diseases. So, your problem may be more complicated. I was told I had acne. Not anymore.
