PDL (Pulse Dye Laser)

Hey,

Seeing as PDLaser seems to be the only thing that has improved redness i have booked in for tomorow at 11.45am with a very experienced dermatologist. I have a couple of questions before i go through with the treatment:

1) If i only get a low 'power' treatment will i still see results but less bruising etc, so it will take more treatments?

2) Does PDL help to reduce the flushing and blushing that comes with KPRF?

Thanks!

Cam

Re: PDL (Pulse Dye Laser)

the laser manufactures claim it may reduce flushing and blushing with PDL treatment, but I have not experinced it, but Paxil 20mg daily stopped the flushiing and blushing.

I get a method done which is called "stacking" with the PDL (V beam) it is when the derm does a double zap and moves to the next spot and then the next spot. which improves the redness greatly, and I have 2 so far and going for another 3. also the size of the lens on the PDL is different for whatever is being treated, but 10 milimeter mm (the size of a dime" is pretty standard for a large area on the face. at a moderate power setting but its usually increased with every treatment, your face can get swollen for about 24-48 hours, just looks like u gained weight in the face, and a little more redness for 2 days or so, so ice it when u get home, but dont wash it to hard. its only possible u might bruise not definate. stay out of the sun after treamtent for a couple weeks. and dont use any vitamin A supplements while having laser done before or after.

also did u read my post from the forum form a few months back about help before a laser treatment:http://www.keratosispilaris.org/kp-r...ments-all.html

Re: PDL (Pulse Dye Laser)

Well had my first PDL treatment today..only got my right cheek done. Must say it was a little more painful than i expected but no bruising whatsoever as the specialist used a wide 'nozzle' and a low setting. She expects me to see a 80% improvement after 3-4 appointments. I was BRIGHT red for about 2 hours after the treatemtn but it was already settled down to just a bit red and puffyish (this is 9 hours after treatment) will keep u posted on how things go!!

Re: PDL (Pulse Dye Laser)

I told you that its not definate u will bruise, and I said you will get a little redder and puffy for a couple days.you should see improvement over the next 2 weeks. Im going for my 3rd treatment on Thursday, did you ask ur derm to use the stacking method to treat ur skin ? you should get a prescription for the numbing cream from your derm before u go back for another treatment , its all in here ::no more stinging pain during Vbeam,IPL,or laser treatments for all!

Re: PDL (Pulse Dye Laser)

She said not to use topical anesthesias as they can interupt the vascular (something) so i will just put up with the pain for now

Re: PDL (Pulse Dye Laser)

did she use the stacking method ? , I had it done and compared to a regular treatment its inprovement is better and faster. vascular meaning flushing and blushing thats why I take paxil as it stopped the flushing and blushing, and the PDL gets rid of the KPRF redness. I hope u made ur 3-4 treatments in advance over the next few months so they are back to back, ur first treatment might not give the results u hope for because ur derm is finding how ur skin tolerates certain settings, so a low setting is standard for a first treatment.

Re: PDL (Pulse Dye Laser)

She said the 3-4 treatments should be spaced out by 5-6 weeks each, for best results. Im not sure if she used the stacking method. Paxil hasnt helped my flushing and blushing a great deal and she said that the PDL should treat the flushing and blushing as well as it reduces the amount of secondary visible but useless capilaries and vessels...

Re: PDL (Pulse Dye Laser)

Hey this is the most promising thing I have seen so far

I am convinced that laser is the way to go

I gotta few questions tho

Does it get rid of the redness from blushing/flushing?
I know it's ur first one but I could care less about the bumps or hair or what not I just want the redness gone lol

How much does it cost?

And where are you from?

Re: PDL (Pulse Dye Laser)

Pulse Dye Laser is designed to only affect redness so it does nothing whatsoever for hair or bumps etc etc. PDL takes away about 50% of any residual redness (constant red cheecks) but will take away about 80% of the flushing and blushing. I am from New Zealand and the first treatment was $600, each treatment after that is $400 - New Zealand Dollars that is...

A lot of the constant redness in your cheecks will be from flushing, even though you dont feel like your flushing so when it removes the flushing part of it, it will decrease the overal redness too!

Re: PDL (Pulse Dye Laser)

Wow that's really reasonable - I had my first treatment about 7 years ago in Remuera (Auckland), as it was the only PDL in NZ at the time and it cost me $2,000.

Last treatment was in Dunedin for $750. Where did you get your treatment done?

Thanks
Anne

Re: PDL (Pulse Dye Laser)

Thanks Camco

might stick with closer to home even though yours is really reasonable. Invercargill to Auckland can cost a lost in plane fares.

Glad that you found them so helpful.

I was thinking it would be good to have a subtopic on the KPRF page just devoted to laser treatments as there is a lot of info that gets lost in old threads.

I note that new threads are continually started about lasers and what one is best etc.

what do you think?
