Busy at moment - have taken some time out from work to do some study and busy with assignments.

Just thinking it would be good if you could post the exact model of laser, settings used and if the person giving you the treatment was a derm or more of a beauty type clinician.

It would be great to have some real evidence of the effects of different lasers on KPRF redness. I appreciate you posting your results on the forum as it will help others.

I hope to get my third vbeam next year if time allows. Because my blood vessels are really damaged I bruise really badly - I end up looking like a chipmunk with my eyes nearly closed cause of the swelling!

Look forward to hearing about he end results

Re: Vbeam?

Sure no problem.

I had the Candela Vbeam laser. The settings were on the lowest, and it was done by a derm.

I actually just noticed i have two purpura on the side of my face (hence why i didnt notice before lol). I know those take forever to heal, which is kinda sucky, but i suppose im lucky theyre more on the side rather than on my cheeks. But what i find SO weird is that i got them in a place where i have like, NOTHING. I dont get any breakouts or bumps or anything there, and that part of my skin is regular skin coloured, not red at all. I was under the impression that you get purpura in places that are red. Something to do with the blood flow there? yeah, im not entirely sure.

My redness is actually confusing because my derm said its a mix of rosacea and soehberric (sp?) dermatitis. However, i also have tiny KP bumps allover my face.

Re: Vbeam?

I just had a vbeam treatment done and I have a bunch of purple welts on my neck and chest and I am very swollen. Has this happened to anyone and does your skin go back to normal? I am extremely nervous it won't.

Re: Vbeam?

This is normal for Vbean and yes your skin will return to normal (time depends on several factors). Check with the person who did the treatment if you are concerned.

Re: Vbeam?

Anne,
Thank you for replying. The doctor also mentioned that I would have white circles where he treated me until my next visit where he can blend them in? Does this sound correct? I really don't know what to expect, if the circles will be very noticeable or what. My doctor is very good and I trust him but he doesn't have a bed side manner and he is in and out like a flash. Did you experience the vbeam or know of someone who has? If so how pleased were you (them) with the procedure? I have a very bad flushing problem that creates red blotches all over my neck chest and face so with flushing I guess you need to be pretty aggressive, I am just hoping this will do the trick! Thanks for any input!!

Re: Vbeam?

Hi again - my skin was permanently red on my cheeks from atrophoderma vermiuculata (another KP problem).

I have had two full vbeam treatments. I am not sure what he means by white circles and blending in. It may be that as you just have patches of redness thisneeds to be done. As I said my skin was all red.

The derm said it reacted like a portwine stain as there were a lot of damaged blood vessels. After two treatments instead of my skin being red it is a dark pink.

For me the brusing took over 2 weeks to heal but again my skin is different.

It sounds like you have a good Dr. I know the first time I had a vbeam done I wondered if I had made things worse as my skin looked terrible. It probably took me 2-3 months to see the full effects of treatment.

Just keep trying to ask your Dr questions - I know some of them can be a bit uncommunicative.

All the best
Anne

Re: Vbeam?

For me, the swelling and redness goes down within a few days. Last time i got two small bruises and those faded in around a week. This time i got no bruises. I agree with Anne, try and ask your doc as many questions as you can. My doctor rushes at times too, but i manage to ask her all my questions by the time i'm gone. Ask while you're getting the vbeam even, since you're just sitting there you can bring something up! I dont know, try to be light and pleasant too, so you're not like hounding them with questions. Or even when you get the vbeam, just say "before we start, i just have a few questions or concerns". It's your time, your money (and lots of it!) so make sure you are comfortable with the doctor. Try looking them up online as well, that's how i found mine, she's the best here for any laser stuff.

Good luck and don't worry, your skin will heal.

Re: Vbeam?

Its really nice to chat with people that have had this done, I was feeling a bit like a pariah. My dermatologist recommended Dr. Ken Lee and my research concluded he was the one, I hope I was right! Did you guys use vitamin k cream or take arnica montana tablets to help with the bruising?
Thanks again for the responses!

Re: Vbeam?

I didn't ake any pills, the only thing i used afterwards for like two days was hydrocortisone, which is a steroid cream to help with the swelling/redness. However, your skin itself will heal too.

Re: Vbeam?

you should be asking them to put laser treatment under your insurance, they still get paid but by the insurance co., my derm writes it up as a hemingioma even though he is treating KPRF. if this is a rare condition then to make the patients life easier they should be willing to put it under imsurance, also since there is no cure! if the derm has a good bed side manner you should ASK!

Re: Vbeam?

You can't claim things under insurance everywhere. Here in Canada this stuff for me can't really be claimed.

Re: Vbeam?

Same in NZ. I approached the medical insurer I was with but it is viewed as cosmetic so they wouldn't pay.

Re: Vbeam?

Im talking about asking your dermatologist to cover the treatments under your insurance, not asking the insurance co. they wont cause they dont care. but your derm knows how this condition affects you, and their is no cure for this rare condtion, so if it helps why not put it under insurance. like i said if he or she is nice, compassionate or good bed side manner ASK! it is considered as cosmetic treatment, but if your derm writes medically neccessary it will be covered. he can write that he is treating something medically neccessary. ex. (hemingioma) port wine stain. so ASK your DERM!

Re: Vbeam?

my doc pretty much cleared that up for me at the consult stating insurance doesn't cover so don't even ask. I think its one of those things that has to be more publicized before anyone realizes its a real problem. I have been on medication since I was 15 yrs old because of how this problem has affected my life but not one doctor that I have been to about this problem has really cared. I also have been to MANY docs that have said there is nothing they can do for this??? Then we moved to Portland Oregon and I found one right away??? This doc claims this laser has been out for many years and he has not idea why none of my other docs knew of it??? I just really hope all that I am going through is worth it!

Re: Vbeam?

because there are derms who treat skin diseases and their are derms who do cosmetic procedures as well as treat skin diseases. the ones who dont do cosmetic procedures only focus on meds. what meds are you on ?
