Best meds for flushing
Hey everyone I have tried lasers to help with my redness and flushing and have not had sucess. I know several of you have tried Paxil for flushing with lots of sucess, but I also have read from you that it is dangerous. What else is out there for flushing. I have really fot to get this in control. I have already tried 4 beta-blockers. Thanks

Re: Best meds for flushing
i took elavil 12mg for 2 months and id say im cured. i stoped taking it like around 3 months ago and i barely even had a 1 second blush like 5 weeks ago.
What does it mean lasers did not work for your redness? Maybe try test patch with ipl, ktp, or vbeam at different settings... your cosmetic dermatologist should know that..- if he doesnt, he sucks. |

Re: Best meds for flushing
Thanks for the response. What kind of flusher were you? As far as lasers I mean I have done 13 sessions 1 v-beam from a local person, did nothing, 7 treatments at another place, that basically jaked my face up, caused me to flush more and had more redness, 5 sessions with the luminus ipl, which also saw no improvement. Maybe I have not found the right person yet, but I feel like I need to tackle the flushing before I attack the redness again. I feel like I cannot get rid of the flushing by doing anything topically or with lasers. I have even consdidered ets, though I am far away from being serious about that.

Re: Best meds for flushing
hello again,
my flushing were was an 8 on a 1-10 scale. Around 4-5 times daily for 5-30 minutes with the common triggers of alcohol, exercise, spicy food, embarrassment, stress i do avoid those triggers except exercise and alcohol- were i dont flush anymore. are you diagnosed with kprf/kpaf? wow 13 sessions is a lot for no success.. but you still have other laser options such as ktp, and purpuric vbeam... "ipl is not the recommended weapon for kp" YOU, are 100% correct about attacking flushing first, because it is the cause of your redness, and making it worse. Although it is not recommended in this forum, many people have had success with Paxil, and Elavil (myself). i'd go for it if your are a healthy person and a doctor prescribes you it. |

Re: Best meds for flushing
Have you ever done any laser treatment? I will look into the ktp laser. Thanks a lot for the info. One thing that I am having a hard time distinguishing is if I have rosacea or kp. I have the redness but my skin is smooth and I have never had any bumps. I have had the redness since I was little and am now 30.

Re: Best meds for flushing
yeah, ive had 2 ipl- no success only a slight decrease in flushing, no decrease on redness, but it made my skin better
2 ktp laser= i was having success but my cosmetic wanted to give vbeam a shot. 2 vbeam= currently recovering from my second (1 week ago) as for the difference between kp and rosacea this could help: Differences: - Rosacea usually starts after 30's, While KPRF can start at any time. - Rosacea is usually accompanied by "Acne" different from white/black heads...usually contains pus, While kPRF bumps(if on the face) contain keratin(usually small hard bumps) - Rosacea redness can be all over the face, while KPRF usually is limited to cheeks, chin, ears(?), areas to the left and right of eyes(top of sideburns) - Rosacea have a set treatment, while KPRF is treated many different ways and usually varies from person to person. - Rosacea can appear in the eye! - - - Similarities - Redness/Inflammation - Puffyness - Dry skin - Flush/Blush easily - some type of bumps - Facial burning and stinging - They both usually cause anxiety and hurt self-confidence/ causes phobias of redness o.o. - Both are caused by genetics ![]() - Lasers are able to treat both to some degree. Unknown -KPRF is known to become worse or better with age? While rosacea becomes worse with time. |

Re: Best meds for flushing
Hi Parker,
What you have sounds very similar to what I have, redness on the cheeks but with no bumps. Actually my cheeks are probably the smoothest part of my face. I get extremely hot and red and can feel my face flushing to the point where the only relief is to sit in front of a fan, even if all I'm doing is sitting in a cool room. I actually saw my doctor this morning and he is convinced that it is rosacea. He gave me two prescriptions, a pill called Novo-Clonidine, which i believe is generally prescribed for high blood pressure and hot flashes, but i read that it has had success reducing redness. Also a gel called Metronidazole which is commonly prescribed for rosacea. I don't know if you've seen a doctor regarding this, but it is probably a good idea. I will post my results, if any (hopefully they're good!). |

Re: Best meds for flushing
ts- doctors confuse them a lot.. but im sure they will both work.the clonide will help the flushing and the metrogel will reduce inflammation. it also works for kp- "finacea"
