I am new to this board, however I am not new to this sickening disease. I am 28 and have been dealing with it since the age of about 13. It has progressivlely gotten worse. I feel that I am always hot now. I remember when I was younger I would wake up almost pale, but as the day grew longer I would get more and more red, and hot. Eventually the redness took over, and I now am red in the cheeks and ears 24/7. I also have the red bumps all ver my arms and legs. Can anyone relate, and if so, have you had PHOTOderm or any other kind of treatment. I am on the verge of suicide at this point, because of how bad this has affected my social life, and all areas of my life for that matter. Thank you

mogj32 you need to find self-esteem from something other than your looks. I admit that people do take first-impressions on looks, but once someone knows you its their opinion of you that influences how beautiful you are to them. Being pretty on the inside really does make you pretty on the outside.
I personally go to great lengths to cover my facial redness with makeup. I have become dependent on the makeup which isn't ideal, but it gets me through life. I think you might need to get a second opinion on your KP because it isn't usually as irritating as you describe. I found that my cheeks used to burn because I was self-conscious and because my skin was really dry because of the KP so maybe you should be moisturising lots. If you want relief from facial redness caused by KP I suggest putting hydrocortisone on your face at night before you go to bed. I have found that steriod creams such as this will provide temporary relief. |

I just looked at the Veinwave website and the treatment looks really impressive, I'm going to ask my derm about it next time I see him. Is there anything you guys are using to reduce redness that works at all?

Rosacure really helps redness!
I started using Rosacure over the weekend, applying it morning and night, and it really has reduced the redness in my face! Its produced by a company in Italy called General Topics. I paid about $70 for 50 ml from an online pharmacy.
I haven't heard of veinwave either but will look into it too! I assume its a form of laser treatment (?). A year ago I was treated with a star pulse aura laser (think thats what it was called) and it reduced the redness a little. |

Veinwave possibility
A lady replied to me, that her son, had the red cheeks and ears, real bad, and had veinwave done, recently. 2 treatments and it has reduced his redness a lot. I believe its only available in the U.K., and i unfortunately live in Los Angeles, CA. i tried to get more info from her and then she dissappeared like 5 days ago, her name is ellie on this board. But anyway, I am gonna try and contact the doctors in the u.k. and see if its worth flying out there. i already had photoderm done twice with absolutely no results whatsoever!!!!!!

I dont think the veinwave stuff is intended for KP. Just look at the site. No mention of Kp...Kp is not a vein problem. Id be careful with that stuff. Might make things more complicated.

When I had laser treatment the dermatologist who treated me didn't really know anything about KP. But that was irrelevant because the redness in my face is due to visible blood vessels. If the capillaries close to the skin on a patient's face can be closed down then it will reduce the redness, whether they have KP or not.
mogj32 I dont think you need to travel to the UK. There must be similar laser treatments available in the US! |

I have had photoderm done twice with the inventor Dr. Bitter. I flew to california to have them done, with no results. Aparently this veinwave is different, I am praying. And I have searched but can't find it anywhere here in the U.S.

The redness in KP cases is caused by irritation to the skin by some sort of hair follicle malfunction as I understand it.
Sorry about the wording...Im no doctor. The redness in rosacea etc...is caused by vein problems. Therefore the redness being caused by different sources means that the cure/treatment for one will not be the cure/treatment for the other. Just because something helps with the redness in a persons face doesnt mean it will work for ALL redness. You have to look at what the treatment is actually doing and in veinwave it is treating veins...not hair follicle disorders. I am with everyone on hoping for and wanting a cure....but it isnt going to happen. Noone cares. People dont understand why its a big deal to us. Just throw on some make-up if it is that big a deal and shut up is the popular school of thought. Best advice ever: Learn to live with it. Best of luck Luv ya all |

I know the hair folicle thing is why we have bumps on our arms and legs and stuff, that i can see. but i think that has nothing to do with redness in the cheeks and ears. Think about it, would you grow hair where your cheeks are red NO!, and your ears, NO!

you have hair all over your body...and last i checked the cheeks grow hair (hence beards) and ears are notorious for hair (hence nose and ear hair clippers)
Just because its not noticeable to your naked eye (just like the millions of bugs we all have crawling on us making a meal of our dead skin) does not mean there isnt irritation and hair there. Then again...im no doctor...but this what the derm i visited when i was 13 told me. Hell i wish it was bull****..whatever gives ya hope. Believe what you want but its not going away. |
