Do I have KPRF? Please help me out.

For as long as I can remember, I've had thin eyebrows and a red face. I only just found this website, and it seems like I might be suffering from KPRF or some similar, related condition. However, there are two things I'm unsure about. I hope someone here can help me out.
  1. I've seen people here talking about "flushing and blushing", which is (from what I gather) a sudden onset of extreme blushing. I don't have this. My cheeks are constantly red, on both sides. Exercise and alcohol can make my cheeks glow which is normal – but it doesn't make them any redder.

  2. Also, I've read that people with KPRF commonly have bumps on their cheeks. I don't. In fact, my cheeks don't feel any different from the rest of my face. I do, however, have "chicken skin" on my upper legs and arms.
Anyway, just knowing that that there are more people out there with a similar condition, is a huge help. This condition has had a very negative impact on my self-image, and I've been living the past few years as a pariah. Hopefully, I'll be able to change this around.

Thanks in advance.

(I can provide a picture, if necessary. Just tell me.)

Hi - a picture would be good.

In the meantime can I just throw some questions at you that may help determine what is going on.

When you say you have had it as long as you can remember - do you mean as a young child? Can you pinpoint an age when the redness and thinning eyebrows started or were you like born with this???

When you say thinning eyebrows - what part of the eyebrow is thin and is there any redness in that area?

Last question - when your skin is calm does the redness appear more in one area of your cheek or is your whole cheek red (top and bottom constantly the same red colour)???

I really have had this for as long as I can remember. Baby pictures show me with a red face, and I've had it all throughout life until to this very day. So, I would say I was probably born with this.

About my eyebrows: I actually didn't start growing them until I was like 14 or 15 years old, and even then they were very thin and barely visible, the outer parts especially. Even today (I'm now 18 years old), my eyebrows are barely visible. There is also a lot of redness in this area – basically everywhere my eyebrows would normally be.

And about the redness, it's hard to explain, but I would say it's pretty evenly spread. I understand a picture would really clarify things, so I'm working on posting one.

Anyway, thanks a lot for showing interest and helping me out. I'll post a picture real soon.

almost all dermatoligic conditions involve redness, u NEED to ask a dermatologist, before u ask anyone else.

I agree you do need to get a proper diagnosis however because sometimes keratinization disorders can be misdiagnosed it is good to get yourself informed as to what are the symptoms for these and if you feel your condition matches them.

Here is a site that has pictures of KPRF and Ulerythema Ophryogenes on them. I would say the KPRF is pretty true however in my case and in other cases of UO I have seen the outer third of the eyebrow is often a lot redder than the one of the young child shown in the picture:

Keratosis Pilaris. DermNet NZ

Jason is right redness can be a lot of things. The site above has a lot of info on other skin conditions also. Ultimately however you need to see a derm to get a proper diagnosis however being self informed is also a good thing. With me it took six derms over a period of 21 years to finally get my UO diagnosed. If I had had access to the internet at the time I would most likely have worked out for myself that I had this and been able to ask a dermatologist to confirm it.

All the best
