Clonidine for flushing and blushing

Anyone tried this or know anyone that has or have any thoughts on this? It seems like it may work for alot of rosacea flushing and menopausal flushing so why not KPRF??

its the same thing as propranolol, it allows your blood vessels (veins and arteries) to relax (widen) and your heart to beat more slowly and easily.

it works, but not a huge difference! I tried it before but then stopped, because it can mess with ur blood pressure, then I found something that worked better!

Re: Clonidine for flushing and blushing

I was prescribed this by a Derm who thought I had Roscacea. When my skin didn't respond to it he decided to put me on a double dose.

That night I had a major clonic tonic (grand mal) seizure lasting 5 mins and was unconcious for hours following.

I ended up having to take antiepileptic medication for about 3 years to stop more seizures from happening (never had any seizures prior to taking this drug)

I recently looked into this on the internet and it appears that I am not alone in my experience. My reaction was rare but the drug in high doses obviously mucks around with your system.

Not trying to scare you off the drug as it is obviously used by millions with no real side effects - just watch if the derm starts wanting to put you on a higher than normal dose because your skin is not responding like rosceacea patients do.

exactly, thats another reason I stopped because it seems u have to take more mg to get the same effect if any, but I didnt now about seizures, scary anne. just so others know I posted about the having to take more mg after so long for it to keep working in one of the threads about propanlol which is (clonidine). it seems it works when u first start taking it but after a week or so in my case no same results so, I began to more mg and it kept working but then again so I stopped taking it.

Wow anne! THANKS for sharing your experience with us, it is really helpful. I didn't know that that medication can cause that kind of side effects.

I'm sorry and sad that you had to go through that horrible experience because of a wrong diagnosis.

What is happening to some doctors out there???? We are the ones telling them what is KP and how to deal with it...

Re: Clonidine for flushing and blushing

Thank Elsa Zoe - no worries really - when you have these rarer KP conditions you kind of get used to being misdiagnosed.

Unfortunately misdiagnosis can be both emotionally and physically damaging ie. when I was first misdiagnosed at 14 I was told the condtion was emotionally caused and drugged up on valium. The thought that I was solely responsible for causing my face to be raw and red and my eyebrows to fall out, stayed with me until I was finally correctly diagnosed 23 years (and 5 derms) later.

As ones on the site will know physical pain and problems are often easier to recover from that emotional ones. Since being diagnosed correctly and having access to info on this conditions I have been able to move on from all those wrong diagnosis.

This is the main reason why I hang around this forum - I couldn't stand to see anybody walk through these conditons like I did alone and without any information.

Thank you for helping this site to keep running and I am in no doubt that it has helped many.

Anne
