Re: Propranolol

As I understand it you have mild roscacea on your face and redness on your neck. You also have a problem with flushing.

As someone who has been misdiagnosed and undiagnosed numerous times I can't help but think it would be good to get a second opinion to see if in fact you have rosaceca and also to find out why your neck is red.

Redness can be from many things. Unfortunately a misdiagnosis and subsequent medication can often have unnecessary side effects. i.e. I was put on valium as a teen as it was deemed my KPRF and KPAF were emotionally caused - this had a real negative impact on me. A diagnosis a few years later said I had roscacea and was put on a drug called dixarit (i think). As my skin didn't respond the dose was doubled - that night I had a massive clonic tonic epiletic seizure for the first time and ended up on antiepileptic drugs for several years.

I guess I am just pointing out that derms aren't infallible. If I was you I would look at pictures on the net that show kprf and rosceacea and also that condition Jason talked about. I just want to make sure that you are treating the correct problem.

As a parent I can appreciate your parents concern - I am sure a second opinion would make them feel more at ease about your treatment and also confirm to you what is actually going on with your skin.

Re: Propranolol

If you are fit and healthy (blood pressure and heart etc)lo and propanolol should be absolutely fine, musicians and actors take them regularly and they arent controlled in many countries, my 2 cents

Re: Propranolol

Camco, I completely agree. I have consulted two family friend doctors and they say the drug should not adversely affect me.

Re: Propranolol

my advice would be to use it only for special occasion, like when you know you're gonna have a stressful day

Re: Propranolol

I have been on Propranolol for 10 years to help stabilize high blood pressure that I've had since I was 27 years old. I've never had any side effects and I know that it's also sometimes prescribed for migraine relief and for mild anxiety.

One comment that I read said to take it only when you know you'll have a stressful day. If you do decide to take the medication, you should take it every day as it's a systemic drug. Do not stop taking it abruptly! You would need to wean yourself off of it by starting out taking a pill every other day for a couple weeks, then every third day, etc. until you're off of it as it does affect your blood pressure.

I would however, get a second opinion on the medicine before you consign yourself to taking it every day. Any medication is a serious deal and I've never heard of it being prescribed for KP or flushing.

Re: Propranolol

I just want to point out that a pretty universal side effect (at least for guys) is decreased "peformance." This drug will mess up your sex life.

And if you already have poor circulation it will get even worse. My hands and feet can get pretty cold during the winter but taking this drug they got absolutely freezing.

Also (and I know Jason has expressed this) it stops working at a small dosage and it is necessary to take more after a couple of weeks.

And any case, the side effects can't possibly be as bad as this condition...and i've seen all the possible side effects with Paxil and i'm prepared to accept them.
