Thumbs up re: Flushing and Blushing Cure! Paxil (paroxetine)

yes a few, but its not an intense flush with heat in face and it is very very minor and settles in minutes, and its not constant like before when it happens for a reason or no reason at all. 99% of the time no flush or blush and 1% a minor flush and blush if your overtired or fatigued.

re: Flushing and Blushing Cure! Paxil (paroxetine)

I took paxil for a while. It did help with reducing flushing. Social pressures didn't cause it anymore.

I wouldn't recommend taking paxil though. It has other bad side effects. Stomach pain was what made me get off of it. And it does have bad withdrawal effects.

I think the oil that we found out about works just as well for reducing flushing as paxil, and by much safer mechanisms.

re: Flushing and Blushing Cure! Paxil (paroxetine)

well no side effects here Tanaka, good luck with your oil.

by the way every med has side effects even cough syrup and OTC creams etc.., it does not mean it is going to happen, and most side effects with paxil are about as rare as KPRF! sometimes conditons NEED meds and you could always use natural things too along with meds. but how does oil stop your central nervous system from flushing and blushing ? curious to know how its proven.

re: Flushing and Blushing Cure! Paxil (paroxetine)

Hi everyone

I would just like to voice my opinion about Paxil.
Before I start, I would first like to say that I am a Medical Doctor, and have been doing dual specialisations in derm as well as surgery.
I also have KPRF, and I fully understand the social implications of flushing.

Paxil is a serious drug. It was NOT intended for use in people who do not have anxiety disorders. We are not even sure how SSRI's work, and using them in people who do not have sero problems may be dangerous. Paxil also has serious side effects. Weight gain, sexual problems, and mood disorders being just a few. I would strongly suggest that anyone wanting to try this see their doctor for a consult and be honest with them about why you want to use Paxil.

It is also a very very difficult drug to come off. the side effects when stopping it are severe even after just taking it for 1 week.

I am not saying it doesnt work, because it does. It will help your blushing and flushing. The mechanisms behind that have been shown clinically. But please be careful, it may be that there are more negatives than positives in using it.

re: Flushing and Blushing Cure! Paxil (paroxetine)

Jason,

Yes, every med has side effects, but some are more serious than others, so the comparison with OTC creams is not valid. I have not read that OTC creams can cause suicidal thoughts or depression. In the great desire to be rid of blushing/flushing, one may be getting into a much more serious situation.

The quote below is from Paxil side effects (Paroxetine Hydrochloride) and drug interactions - prescription drugs and medications at RxList

Associated With Discontinuation of Treatment

Twenty percent (1,199/6,145) of patients treated with PAXIL in worldwide clinical trials in major depressive disorder and 16.1% (84/522), 11.8% (64/542), 9.4% (44/469), 10.7% (79/735), and 11.7% (79/676) of patients treated with PAXIL in worldwide trials in social anxiety disorder, OCD, panic disorder, GAD, and PTSD, respectively, discontinued treatment due to an adverse event.

And below from Paxil - suicide risk in young adults - WebMD
Paxil Suicide Risk in Young Adults
FDA and Drug's Maker Warn Doctors of Possible Risk in Adults Aged 18-30

While you may not have had any side effects, that doesn't mean some one else won't.

The Keratosis Pilaris Forum is NOT RECOMMENDING the use of Paxil.

Paxil seems to be the only thing that works for KPRF, but it's not recommended on the forum? Is the side effects worse than the effects of KPRF? Or maybe there are som other ways to threat KPRF?

The KP Forum can not recommend any drug that has a suicide risk, even if it is a small risk. You are free to make your own decision as to what to use.

I myself do not have KPRF, and my heart goes out to all of you who struggle with this affliction. But as a responsible forum, we would be remiss to allow this discussion to continue without expressing our viewpoint and concerns. Thank you, rcm, for sharing your knowledge with us concerning Paxil.

re: Flushing and Blushing Cure! Paxil (paroxetine)

If anyone reads my view on paxil you will see that I stated to ask a medical doctor for a prescription and not just get it online, and talk to a doctor about it as well. Im not defending paxil and I also stated in my posts Im not an authority figure on paxil. but it works for me. and most people here suffer from serontonin anxiety condtions (because that where the flushing and blushing comes from) even without the flushing and blushing u are red but not beet red and burning up, thats where PDL treatments come in to treat the redness that is there from KPRF, and paxil for F & B. people here have tried accutane and nobody seems to mind, accutane can cause suicidal thoughts as well as night blindess and high cholesterol. but then again living with KPRF can cuse suicidal thoughts too. Paxil for me took away all the mind racing thoughts about KPRF, and fear of blushing, and the anxiety that KPRF causes. also the flushing and blushing. but like I said Im only stating what I tried and what worked, not telling people to go out and get Paxil, but consult a doctor. not to mention I have no weight gain, sexual problems or mood disorders except the fact that Im me again.

there are posts on this forum that talk about people taking hormones for KPRF, female hormones that even men could take. and people who talk about using beta blockers as well. im no doctor but I suspect Paxil is safer then taking hormones and beta blockers.

re: Flushing and Blushing Cure! Paxil (paroxetine)

The main goal of Paxil is to RELIEVE anxiety not cause it. but yeah side effects are possible like any meds. thats fine NOT Recomending paxil but u should also not recomend accutane as well, I was blown away when I read the side effects that were POSSIBLE, but still tried it, as it was prescribed by a MD and I follow instructions, does not work anyway so I came off it. KPRF causes alot of side effects too no social life, depression, embarrased easily, flushing and blushing, bad thoughts, etc.etc..

In all fairness to the forum see a doctor about Paxil dont just read exceprts about it online, see if a doctor thinks it is right for u.

Messi,

Your new here, dont wait for others to reply with what works or you will be here for a long time. some find things that work and dont come back to the forum. If you can get a prescription from your doctor for Paxil, go ahead. 20mg daily is a low dose compared to the 40 and 60mg that are available. even comes in 10 and 12.5 mg, but 20mg works.

I think its great jason! we all know how tough our condition is.
But to all on this thread, please consult a doctor first. do not buy this drug on the internet!
it is a dangerous drug that needs to be used correctly.
