ash213,
he is still red from KPRF, he just does not get beet red anymore since he no more flushes/blushes. and he is working on getting PDL treatments too, at my suggestion also. so pics, dont really do anything unless u have a before (flushed/blushed) pic, and a present pic after using paxil. I will PM him. |

i never really managed to get one when my face was at it's worst, so i can't prove how effective Paxil really is. but that one i posted earlier on this thread was before Paxil, but on a good day...
i will get you a more recent one though Ash, as i believe that my skin is better than that earlier pic. |

Re: Flushing and Blushing treated with Paxil (paroxetine)
anxiety medications that have been found to be effective to alleviate facial blushing accompanied by anxiety, include beta blockers, alpha blockers and SSRI's (selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors, such as Paxil or Zoloft). Beta blockers with the exception of lopressor, including tenormin, atenolol, work selectively on the beta receptors of the heart. When the brain sends signals to the heart to speed up, beta blockers block the uptake of adrenaline which causes the heart to race and subsequent flushing that occurs on the face and neck. Loppressor works on the CNS to do the same thing.
Facial blushing medications also include clonidine which is an alpha blocker. Clonidine works as a vascular stabilizing medication so that the vessels don't constrict or dilator. It's calming affect is used to treat anxiety disorders, hot flashes, flushing and sleeplessness. Clonidine can make your mouth dry cause severe drowsiness. |

Re: Flushing and Blushing treated with Paxil (paroxetine)
The citrolpam isn't working too great.
ITs wierd, some days i feel it is working superb, other days not work at all. I went on holiday to America last week, rarely flushed, even tho i walked around in the blazin sun all day. I think it was because i was relaxed alot more, but since im back in the UK im back to the odd flush everynow and again, like when i eat. im flushed now just after dinner. both cheeks red, im ****ed off now. Might go back to doctor and convince her to switch me to paxil. ARggggggGGGHHH!!! its annoying cos like i said some days it works, some days it doesnt. |

I know what you mean man. I am also taking 20mg of Celexa and while it is helping me with my OCD and anxiety, its not 100% effective on the flushing. As far as side effects go, I have only one and it is a very uncommon but contreversial as well. I crave alcohol like never before. I usually drink on weekends only but now for some reason I crave it really bad. And for some reason I can drink ridiculous amounts and function like Im practically sober. Its really weird and I need to find a way to calm my craving. Many people on the paxilprogress forums had the same problem. |

Re: Flushing and Blushing treated with Paxil (paroxetine)
Paxil works for the flushing and blushing, which Ibeleive now is caused by anxiety from having KPRF.
IPL hair removal works for males, to remove the hair on the cheeks only (which destroys the ability for hair to regrow back, and stops the KP process of forming bumps and getting irritated, mainly from shaving. PDL works for the redness too, as well as IPL but at a lower setting. with this combination KPRF can totaly go away, no more hair for keratin to build up around (smoother skin since no hair to shave or left over stubble, like when u were younger and did not shave, ur skin look just like that, after gettting IPL hair removal done, and PDL for the general redness, and paxil for the flush/blush. eventually u will only need just paxil, after PDL, IPL hair removal did it job. but how many treatments for people vary, my hair was gone after 2 IPL treatments but some grew back finer and softer, had another 2 IPL treatments, then 2 months later even less came back, another 2 treatments and 98% hair on cheeks gone. I find PDL done once a month until the result is achieved of no more redness or way less redness is best. just some info I wanted to throw out, only for guys, since it invovles the (cheek/beard area). and came to the conclusion that if u have a heavy or even a full beard to shave only makes KPRF more worse over the years from the point of when u start begining to shave and as u get older and shave, no more hair actually results in no ability for KPRF to affect the hair follicles on ur cheeks. PEACE |

PEACE P.S. I also came across this site after I decided having IPL hair removal treatments done, but only IPL hair removal, dont get laser hair removal, takes longer and not as effective as IPL hair removal. but PDL (lwhich is a laser) is good for redness. www.dermnetnz.org/acne/keratosis-pilaris.html |

Been to see a lcoal consultant dermatologist, he wanted a urine and blood sample taken.
Besides that he had my file infront of him from previous visits from other hospitals and from my GP, he quoted on laser treatment as not been effective for my condition...which in fact was a silly thing to say as he does not know my condition as of yet, anyway he's guessing i've got Rosacea...but either way Laser treatment is effective for both KPRF and Rosacea, the effect depends on the number of treatments and the setting. |

Re: Flushing and Blushing treated with Paxil (paroxetine)
Im going to the doctor again tomorow and im going to politely ask for Paxil instead of the citalopram that i have been on. IT's ok, but i still do flush now and then, every other day, which is annoying.
In addition i did purchase some Aveeno shaving gel, the positively smooth one, which gives me a nice shave. I just ordered the moisterizing lotion and the bar. |
