Flushing and Blushing treated with Paxil (paroxetine)

20 mg Paxil daily cures facial blushing and flushing.
been taking half dose (10mg) for 2 months then upped it to 20mg full dose on 12/22/07 and I have not flushed or blushed since. even when I wake up from sleeping on side of my face Im not really red like I would be from laying on either side when sleeping, as for the roughness on my cheeks thats been gone for 2 months now since I had IPL hair removal done only on my cheeks (smooth skin) and as for the redness thats always there but not the beet redness like when your flushed or blushing since no more from the paxil, Im getting PDL treatments. 1 done so far.
I take the paxil at night around 10:00 or 11:00pm, because it is prescibed for social anxiety disorder (SAD) and blushing and flushing excessivley is one if not the major symptom of (SAD) it regulates the serentonin in ur body. it is a presription you can get from your family doctor and it comes in generic too, its been around for about 10 years.

Re: flushing and blushing cure!

Thats great news Jason. It must be great knowing that you now have some control over the flushing/blushing.

I appreciate all your posts and keeping this forum alive. The more we toss ideas around and ask questions the better.

Re: flushing and blushing cure!

I'll chime in on the use of Paxil. I used it a few years ago for SAD, and I can attest that it did help. My panic attacks were 99 percent gone. The problem - I gained about 40 pounds in a year. I didn't even know I had gained that much weight until I ran into someone I hadn't seen in months, and he told me my face was much rounder that it used to be. I weighed myself and, sure enough I was heavy. I tried diet and exercise to lose the weight without success. I took myself off the Paxil, and the 40 lbs was gone in 3 or 4 months... And I had some strange withdrawal symptoms when coming off, even by weaning myself by going from 20mg to 10, to 5, and then 0. Whenever I moved my head to look to the side, there was a woosh sound in my ears, and I was processing my vision slowly. Kind of like taking a video camera and moving from one direction to another - I would see everything in between instead of just focusing on one point and then focusing on the next point. That lasted about 3-4 weeks. If it wasn't for the weight gain though, I would call Paxil a miracle drug for SAD........just my experience, yours may be different

Re: flushing and blushing cure!

were u eating alot more calories and did not realize ? or did ur doctor tell u it was from the paxil. I myself can gain a few pounds. u dont have to stay on paxil forever just untill ur serentonin levels stabalise. paxil is the safest of all those types of meds, prozac, valium etc.. I should have taken it 10 years ago when I was 18.

that's not true - paxil (paroxetine) causes very often severe SSRI discontinuation syndrome!!it's even recommended to change paxil to prozac to reduce symptoms of discontinuation. Lexapro is known as the safest antidepressant but Paxil seems to have the strongest anti-anxiety action.

I wasn't eating any extra calories, the Paxil caused my metabolism to slow down. I'm 6'3, and have been around 200 lbs since I was 18 (over 20 years). On paxil I got up to 240, but since coming off, I've been my ideal weight of 200. Paxil is a great drug, and it does what it is advertised to do. If I ever needed to go back on it, I would start a low fat, low carb diet at the same time......

re: Flushing and Blushing Cure! Paxil (paroxetine)

Are you sure you have KPRF, jason? Sounds a bit like maybe some sort of social anxiety where you blush when embarrassed or something? In any case, I've been on many SSRI's from Prozac to Zoloft and I never noticed any improvement in my KPRF at all.

Re: flushing and blushing cure!

psx,

yes I do, if u read other posts on forum that I have writtten u will see. the paxil, now listen closely stopped the flushing and blushing but doesnt help the skin thats why I have PDL treatments done, and IPL. try paxil at 20mg, not zoloft or prozac.

re: Flushing and Blushing Cure! Paxil (paroxetine)

Every SSRI (not only Paxil) helps flushing/blushing because all of them reduce anxiety. My first antidepressant was Celexa and it helped flushing. Now I'm on Prozac (for depression and mild anxiety) and it works really good. No change in permanent redness (KPRF).
