Exclamation Skin Flushing/Blushing

Im 38 years old. In 11th grade gym class my neck got really really red and felt hot to the touch. Had no clue what was wrong with me but after a few mins it went away so I didnt think anything about it. From that day on when I get embrassed, walk in a hot room, get in a hot car, eat spicy foods, talk in pubic, actually just about anything doing with people my face neck and chest area get really red. I use to tell people I had just got out of the tanning bed and I just stayed in to long but now I will have splotches on my neck and I cant blame that on the tanning bed anymore. In the summer I do get in the tanning bed and get as brown as I can seeing how you cant see my redness as bad but doing the winter I suffer. I have been married 2 yrs and have hid this from my husband for 2 long years. I wear ALOT of turtle neck sweaters and anything I can find that will hide my neck area. I never ever wear any type of shirt without a color. She has really ruined my life. I dread going to work fearing I will turn red in front of my friends. I really do a good job of hiding it but I shouldnt have to. I have ask my dr about this and he is the one that said I had flushing and there was nothing he could do about it. I find that hard to believe. I have read so much stuff on the web but nothing really seems to help. I hear of a surgery they can do but I dont want to do that.
Can anyone help me? Does anyone have this problem? and if so what do you do about it. There has to be a med I can take. I see where some take anti depressents and I have tried that before and it didnt work for me.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know how much this will help you, but I've had the same problem for a while and recently visited a very reputable dermatologist not too long ago. He said the burning is was caused by eczema, not KPRF which I originally thought.

If you find your skin unusually dry, it's probably eczema. If you read the symptoms of eczema, you will see that it tends to flare up in extreme conditions like the ones you described.

Again, I'm no dermatologist, and I'm still discovering new things every day and trying to correct my own misconceptions.

What I would do is use a mild moisturizer like cerave religiously, especially when the weather gets cold. If that irritates your skin, try something else until you find a good moisturizer.

Try to stick to applying it every day, twice a day.

If you can though, go to a dermatologist. He might give you a steroid cream first clear the flare-ups first.

Anyway, hope that helps.

EDIT: I just noticed that you didn't really mention burning as one of the symptoms. It could still be eczema, but in all liklelyhood it's probably rosacea. If it's really bothering you, you can try laser treatments. From what I've heard they work very well for most people

Re: Skin Flushing/Blushing

Thanks!
It doesnt really burn but my skin will be warm to the touch. I tought rosacea only affected your face. This is my face, neck and chest area.
I know my problem has something to do with blood vessels being close to the skin or something like that but Im just surprised my family doc doesnt seemed to be worried about it and he has never told me I could or should go to a derm dr. Do you have to be referred by a Doc to go the derm dr or can I just make an appt myself?

Re: Skin Flushing/Blushing

rosacea does affect ur face, neck, and chest. more common is the face. do an engine search on rosacea on Ask.com for symptoms, but u should see a dermatologist dont figure it out on ur own.
