Upcoming Appointment
I have yet another dermatology appointment on the 28th of April. I am inquiring into the V-Beam, among other things. I had to set this appointment up in early February. Hopefully, it is worthwhile. I'll keep in touch. Peace.

v beam vs. pulse dye laser
hi..my son is 16 . He was told 2 years ago that he had ulerythema oophorogynes..One dermatologist said that's what he thought the redness was, but 2 other dermatologists in the area disagreed. I was told by the 1st derm. that my son should go to Boston for an evaluation for laser surgery(we live in upstate NY)...Has anyone out there had good results for decreasing the redness with laser?. Where did you have it done?? How painfyul was it, and how many treatments were needed...Also, was there lots of bruising?..thanks...Robin

First of all, there are several different types of laser surgery and not all are created equal. I have had Intense-Pulsed Light (IPL) performed w/ almost no effect. I went for over six treatments. IPL is mildly painful and usually does not result in bruising. It may be more appropriate for Rosacea. Another main type of laser surgery is pulsed-dye (PDL). The standard form of PDL almost always results in ten to fourteen days of bruising. I have heard mixed reviews w/ PDL for decreasing redness, but I have never had it done. I come now to the V-Beam laser. It is an offshoot of the PDL w/ the advantage of not normally causing bruising. I have also heard mixed reviews about the V-Beam for decreasing redness.
You have to remember that the most important thing in successful laser surgery is often finding the right practitioner. You must do your homework and be prepared to ask a lot of questions during your consultation. I advise you to browse the older messages of these forums to find much more information. Good luck and if you have any more questions, please ask. |

where are you located Arma??Are you going to a large medical center?? Iask because here in upstate NY I dont know who does the vbeam, and I was tyold that the clinician should be someone who has experience with the laser.. the dermatologist that my son went to see said he doesnt do laser surgery, nad recommended we go to Boston for evaluation. Godd luck on the 22nd... How long have you had the redness? do you have the reddness on your cheeks only, or also on your eyebrows...I'm sorry for all the questions... Thanks in advance!

I am located in Madison, WI. I am going to a Dean Clinic in Madison. My family doctor is also a member of Dean Clinic. They have a chain of clinics throughout Southern Wisconsin. I wouldn't classify them as large medical centers, but several are attached to hospitals.
You can find providers of the V-Beam in your area by visiting Candela's website at http://www.candelalaser.com/patient_ref.cfm I had a lengthy post on my condition and it's history, but it was deleted when the forums went down a few weeks ago. Here is a short summary: KPRF for about four years. My KPRF involves moderate/severe facial redness w/ bouts of flushing varying in intensity and duration. I also have the eyebrow aspect of KP, Ulerythema ophryogenes. If you would like to know anything else, such as my treatment history, just ask. |

It has been four days since my appointment. The laser surgery was quick (less then ten minutes) and minimally painful. My face was very red for the next few hours and has gradually subsided to normal since then. Furthermore, my face was slightly swollen for about two days. The Doctor informed me that I should wait approximately three weeks before deciding upon the results. I believe she used conservative settings as this was my first attempt. As of yet, I have yet to notice much difference. I will continue to hold out hope. The good news is that my second attempt has been scheduled for August 22nd and I will probably opt for more aggressive settings if this one fails to help. If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask. Peace.
