hey levnon- nope don't teach bio. My husband is a veterinarian- that's about the closest I've come to that kind of stuff- I teach remedial reading. You and I share the same birthday- Aug 14! I'm just lots older--Judy

I've only replied to Anne, who also has KP atrophicans, but am interested in knowing if I am the only one who takes 5mg prednisone every other day to control this? Without it, I have a bright red flaring mess above the eyebrows(hair follicles have died) around the cheeks, etc. With the pred., it's barely noticeable unless I drink alcohol or become really upset-then the bright flush is back. The rheumatologist prescribed it after nothing the derm. gave me worked. They ruled out lupus and have gone with the kpa biopsy. Anyone else take this? Judy

Judy just did a search on the forum using 'predisone' - a few threads came up - here is a link to one:
Prednisone for severe allergies=reduced KP It seems that it has definately helped some with their KP symptoms but not others. It seems that people were given it for other reasons rather than by their derms for their skin. May be well worth someone doing a trial on this to see what effect it does have on KP and its variants. Are there any problems with taking predisone long term? |

pred and kpa
thanks for the link,Anne. The rhuematologist assured me 5mg every other day was ok long term;however, you're very hungry(appetite is increased). I used to be thin- no more, but could also be due to a hysterectomy, so have a double edged sword there. Cataracts are a problem with the pred as well, and I visit the eye dr. refularly to monitor that.Nothing else has worked for the kpa. My derm. was going to do some research on this, so we'll see if she finds any more.My son-in-law, an e.r. dr., has had fits that I'm on the pred. I tried plaquenil which the rhem. uses for anti inflammatory, but had side effects-very unusual she said. I feel like I couldn't do without the pred. at this point. The low dose is used in lupus for maintenance at this dosage of 5mg. for some I know--Judy

Hi Judy - personal messaging no longer works on this forum (not sure why).
You can send it to: gogorman 'at sign' orcon.net.nz (have not written @ as tend to get a lot of spam when I do this!) regards Anne |
