Just Make The Redness Go Away
For the past few months I have been some "redness relief" products on my face for my KPRF. These include the entire Eucerin Redness Kit, the Aveeno redness relief with 15spf, and some other random redness calmers like Neutrogena. I drink plenty of water, eat a balanced diet dicussed with a doctor, take my vitamins, and practice the ritual "oil pulling". From all of these things, Nothing has happened. The KPRF bumps are gone, but the redness still remains.
Personally, I wouldn't care if I had tiny skin coloured bumps on my cheeks, but the redness must go. The redness in my cheeks is Very noticible. I don't just have a bit of blush, but more like a giant pentagonal shape of blood lining the underside of my facial skin. If anyone has Any remedies, including laser sugery, that works for redness; please post them here. Do Not post new items that you have newly encountered. First, ensure that they work. If possible, try to post photos of a Before and After effect. Make sure the lighting is the indentical in both situations, and don't be wearing make up. Thankyou, and hopefully a Real Cure can be found. Last edited by Elsa Zoe; 08-16-2007 at 02:52 PM.. Reason: Shouting and Cursing |

I am a man, and I use makeup. I am not homosexual, I am someone who would like to enjoy their skin. If any other men have tried makeup, pat yourself on the back, you have courage!
-If any women would like to respond to this, don't hesitate. -If anyone has concieling tips, you can feel free to post them here. |

I have the same problem. Nothing has worked to take away the redness. 2-4 treatments of PDL (pulse dye laser) will remove the redness, but its expensive. 20-40mg of retin A (isotrentinoin) will help a fair amount aswell, but won't remove it entirely.

PDL does work to remove redness from damaged blood vessels. If your redness is from inflamed KP bumps on the face I am not so sure.
I have had 2 PDL treatments. The first about 5 years ago cost $2,000 (NZ), the second last year however only cost $750 NZ. The skin on my cheeks and eyebrows was very red from UO and AV and is now more like a dark pink (it will probably take a couple more treatments for my skin to be near normal colour - sorry I do not have any before photos to show you). The results from PDL are permanent however you way need 3-4 treatments to get a near normal skin colour. For PDL results look at the V-beam PDL website for before and after pictures. Best to start with your derm to find out if PDL will help and then get some quotes for treatment. The recent article posted under the thread titled something like 'KPRF - latest research' advises that one patient with KPRF had excellent results from PDL treatment. As mentioned above Isotretinoin was also one treatment mentioned in this article that also helped KPRF. |

Well, depending on how you are, and how much blood vessle damage you have, it may only take one PDL to clear the the redness.

I have been suffering from keratosis pilaris for 33 years and have it all over my upper arms. I have recently tried exfoliating and using coconut oil daily, which has certainly made my arms feel very smooth, however the bumps are still there as is the severe redness. Any other suggestions of remedies that have worked?

Well for the past few weeks I have been using Mederma, a scar "lessening" cream, on my cheeks. It seems to make the redness more of a faint pink. It also seems to smooth the line beteween normal coloured skin and the red skin.
I have been to my Derm and we have assesed the bumps. They seem to be dissapearing. My cheek skin is smooth, but pink. I have a powerfull camera that can take macro closeups. So I decided to use this to get a close look at my skin. I can just bearly see tiny red veins in some areas. I think the best thing I can do is put sunscreen on it to prevent sun damage. Thankyou Anne (once again) and jhndaemon56. I appreciate you telling me about the PDL. The only concern I have with it is not the cost, but how many times the proceedure must be done, and the risk of permanent scarring. This is because i would rather have my cheeks a bit pink than pocked with white marks. Thankyou much for your responces. I am going to see my Derm in a week so I will dicuss all of this with him. Thanks Anne and jhn! |

If it is of any help the two treatments I had were quite extensive and neither of them left any scarring at all. The laser targets underneath the skin so the top layer is not really affected.
I am sure your derm will be able to give you more info on all the treatments mentioned on this thread. Best wishes with your treatment. |

Just because you wear make-up doesn't mean you are homosexual. I've been wearing make-up since high school. I also cross-dress and can hit a falsetto on the drop of a dime. Everyone says I look like I have lipstick on because my lips are constantly red and blushed just like everything else. No worries...
I had breathing problems as a kid so I have had horribly dark undereye circles since I was like 6. I started going through my mom's make-up at a very young age and found an affinity towards concealers. People think I'm so weird anyway... I'm especially not worried about not fitting in or being made fun of. It's not like I stand a chance in hell of ever being normal, so I figure..what the hay... Oh and about Pulse-Dye Laser treatment, umm, you people are hallucinating. PDL is not permanent at all. If you experience facial blushing, the PDL's effects will last a couple months, at most. I've had 4, yeah... the redness went away for like 6 months maybe.. and sure enough it's back! Also, I had to have the derm crank it all the way down, and even then I was crying because it was so painful. Last edited by cycloverid; 02-08-2007 at 09:17 PM.. |

The only fast way to get rid of the redness is corticosteroids and/or IPL (no experience). As long as you use it the redness will be faded, but once you stop most likely it will come back. If you're going to use them though, just make sure you don't have rosacea. If you haven't yet get your diagnosis confirmed, because Rosacea + steroids = NOT good
If you have no irritation be happy, because I wouldn't give a damn about my red cheeks if they didn't burn like crazy all the time. Just accept it as part of you, who cares what other people think. Why would you want friends that are that superficial anyway. By kebod: Steroid medications can not be used long-term and are not recommended by this Forum.
