I've had 4, yeah... the redness went away for like 6 months maybe.. and sure enough it's back! Also, I had to have the derm crank it all the way down, and even then I was crying because it was so painful.
I have never seen anyone recommend PDL for just facial flushing (anyone can flush given the right set of circumstances). PDL is best suited for those whose blood vessels have been damaged in some way. For correct info on PDL treatment look at the Candela Vbeam PDL site for before and after photos of conditions that have been treated. Also before you get treatment make sure with a dermatologist that it will help your particular skin condition.

Cycloverid - did a derm say that pulse dye laser treatment would help with your facial flushing?

Yes, they did. And remember, we're talking about KP here. They said it would help reduce KP altogether.

Strange that a derm would recommend costly PDL treatment for a conditon that is on the surface of the skin. The KP bumps obviously went away in your case temporarily but just come back as the hair follicule got plugged up again with Keratin.

I have had PDL treatment for damaged blood vessels caused by UO and AV and it was effective and the results were permanent.

In the article posted by Anunu on this thread it did mention PDL helped a 12 year old with KPRF but unfortunately it doesn't elaborate much on what his skin was like.

I guess the question regarding KPRF is:

'Is it just KP bumps on the face?' or

'Does the KPRF actually damage the blood vessels underneath in some cases'

I guess only a derm could really tell if there had been damage to the actual blood vessel structure in which case if it had I would hope PDL would provide some permanent improvement.

However if the KPRF is just red KP bumps on the face I suspect PDL treatment would not help to reduce the redness permanently.

Thanks for sharing your experience

Not all derms were born equal.

I've used the Eucerin redness relief lotion and facial wash...doesn't do anything for me!! I've used it now for over 4 months and still nada! The lotion is ok but, honestly there is nothing in the world that is going to make this red **** go away.
I have KP pretty bad on my upper arms and on my cheeks...I hate it! If anyone knows of a great relief please share!!

I use green tea extract and aloe on my cheeks to sooth the redness. It feels really good and makes my cheeks appear less red for a bit. This doesn't do anything permanent -- but nothing is permanent. I guess our only option is to wait for something to come along. I can tell you this much, if you have it as bad as me, only some heavy duty internal understanding is going to be able to create any kind of long-lasting results.

Ashley: You sound like you have similar problems as me. By upper arms do you mean forearms also? Do you have KP on your legs as well? Any other acne/dermatitis symptoms?

The KP on my face is mild/moderate. I use an Aspirin mask to fight the redness. I have also had good results with drinking oolong tea. In Japan they have tested oolong tea for treating eczema with great results. I noticed the effects on the redness of my KP on my face and arms, it’s hard to drink so much tea all of the time though.

The aspirin mask works well for me and it’s really easy and cheap to try. – Crush 4 or 5 tablets of aspirin (uncoated aspirin is best), add enough water to make a paste. After a few minuets mix in a little dab of lotion (+-1 tsp) to help it stick to your face. I apply this mixture to my face and let it harden (10-15 min) and then rinse it off. – Aspirin is an anti-inflammatory and oddly enough salicylic acid is derived from aspirin.

Yes, I have used Elidel on my son's cheeks. It does tone down the redness. It's main use is for eczema.. My son does not have eczema. He was diagosed with KP at age 7, I believe.

PS - Elidel is not a steroid. Check out Elidel.com

I just want the redness to go away. I have a brother that has the sme KPRF problem as myself. He chooses to accept it and live with it, but it looks much more red and bumpy than mine. Moisturize constantly.

Back to Makeup use.

Have any of you tried to put makeup on your cheeks? I find it damned near impossible to get it to sit smoothly on my face because of the KPRF bumps and pits(where they have dissapeared).

I have went through many products of powder based makeups to creams, and even liquid ones. The biggest problem is that if you put too little on it the redness and bumps combined with the thin application of makeup looks strange, but at the same time putting to much on makes you look artificial or like a dead person with that pancake **** all over their face...

I believe men can wear makeup if women can, but it has to be tasteful. Someone please help me.

Philmore use Total Block tinted suncreen. Its an spf 60 and its helps cover up some of the redness. Perfect for guys who dont want to have a thick girly makeup on.

If I use the Eucerin tinted stuff every day, and sleep in it, will it in any way damage my skin?

nope

Nope. I recommend the Aveeno redness reduction; it has the same ingredients as the Eucerin and it also includes the avobenzonate which only aveeno uses.

Anne

Sorry this is off topic. What is the climate like in New Zealand? Can it be compared to any other place on earth?
