Re: Just Make The Redness Go Away
Like everyone else, I feel as though I’ve tried every creme, lotion and salve that I could get my hands on. Anything to exfoliate always seemed counterintuitive as virtually anything I apply to my cheeks only makes them redder. But, I have recently had some success with Salicylic Acid. It started when I let some Denorex run down my face and the coolness was so irresistible that I lathered up my cheeks with it and let it sit for a couple of minutes. When I got out of the shower, my cheeks were redder than ever, but the following morning I awoke to a major surprise. The ugly deep red was still there but there was a definite softening in the contrast with my “normal” skin. The difference was significant enough to lead me to try a Salicylic Acid ointment: Neutrogena’s Acne Stress Control ointment.
When I first apply the ointment, my cheeks flare up terribly, but there is a definite improvement the next morning. I now wash my cheeks every morning and night with Extra Strength Denorex with 3% Salicylic Acid and then follow that with Neutrogena’s Acne Stress Control treatment with 2%. So far, I have been pleased with the results. Some days are better than others, but on the best days (2 or 3 days each week), I actually feel relatively comfortable. I continue to apply “Anti-Shine Powder” by Menaji (http://www.menskincare.com), which is really just powder foundation in a more masculine package. But, I’ve pretty much retired the “Camo” stick cover-up. I’m definitely more comfortable in my own skin now. It’s far from perfect, but the difference is dramatic enough to have made an improvement in my confidence level. |
