any1 try tanning?

Hi,
I have KPRF, i blush and flush really qiukly... i also have social anxiety disorder. I have a really white complexion and in desperate need of a light tan. Has any1 tried tanning and spesifically has any1 tried those self tanning lotions , i am concerned about if it helped in hiding the redness in your face and if there are any side effects.
Let me add that i burn usually in the summer but i guess thats because i dont wear sun protection, also i am currently using Differen cream to treat my kprf
Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

I do not think tanning on your face would do much to help KPRF as sunlight/intense light is a flushing trigger for many people who suffer from flushing disorders. I do know that tanning helps KP on other areas of the body extremely well, though. I have not personally tried a self-tanning lotion. Best of luck.

Tanning does actually help cover it all up. The first few times you are gonna leave the tan place red and freaky looking though because of the heat. But once you have gone a few times and have a color base it will be covered up.

I am thinking of doing the mystic tan thing because I want to cover it up but I dont want skin cancer, lol.

Anyone tried this?

I put a number 15 on my daugher in the sun and just keep moisturizing and the sun actually helps her kp. She doesn't flush with her kp, but I knew someone that did flush and she drank lots of water when she felt it coming on and that helped.

My daughter is being treated with AmLactin 12%, and I noticed just yesterday that her cheeks are paler than the rest of her face - well of course, because the AmLactin is constantly exfoliating so those areas aren't tanning. So just wanted to throw that out there. I'm using higher SPF on her now so her cheeks dont' become more obvious for that reason...

I use sunbeds every other week when mine is at its worse, i use a tan accelerator lotion which helps build up a good tan (they do work not a rip off) and also moisturises my skin as they tend to be really rich- hope this helps ?

the result is that mine improves although i do get flare up's occassionally. also the tan helps to 'hide' it a little- i would say though if you have any recent scarring cover it up as i found that mine tan a different colour

it will lessen the contrast. it will help. obviosly those with kprf with pale skin stand out the most; however, if you look closely many people with standard kp with a darker complexion have kprf but do not notice it because it is only a slightly rosed hue, or appears this way due to the color of their skin.

omar,...

OMAR, I have spcial anxiety to..whenever i am in the center of attention at school..I get so flushed and i turn bright red..so much that i can feel it burning in my cheeks and my heart pounding. is there anything you have done that has helped? any creams or techniques? how did you make it through highschool? did you have to give presentations and how did you handle it? I ask my teachers to let me present it to them ONLY and they usually let me. but i wish i could just do it and not turn red i would be happier.

I've got an update on my daughter with the tanning. We recently took a vacation in the Caribbean and the sun tremendously helped our daughter along with the moisture in the air. However, after a few days of the sunscreen, her bumps on her cheeks became more prominent and pimply looking. We used an oil-free face sunscreen but this still happened. Now home a week, her cheeks look pretty good and pimply bumps gone again for most part. We ditched the AmLactin and now use Cetaphil around 3x/day. Can anyone suggest a good sunscreen that doesn't seem to exacerbate the bumps?

JNally, I hope this suggestion may help you - you may want to consider a public speaking group like Toastmasters. It allows you opportunities to practice public speaking in a supportive environment. I've heard many people say it really really helped them overcome the anxiety of speaking in front of others. I remember when I was in jr high and high school (many moons ago), I used to flush terribly when I had to talk in front of a class. A friend recommended I run for student government in an unopposed position, and I somehow got through the speech. After that I was reading minutes from meetings regularly to the other students and it really helped me get more comfortable in front of others. Just a thought for you to consider. My hairdresser told me her best friend had KP noticably in high school and said that come to think of it, she hasn't noticed it in recent years - and sure enough, when I saw her again several weeks later, she said apparently she HAD outgrown it. Hang in there! While it's uncomfortable to you right now, it probably is much less of a big deal to those who know you.

All the Best,
Talia's Mom

Thumbs up any1 try tanning reply

Hi-
I just had my second child in Sept. and my legs and arms were fine because I had spent so much of the end of my pregnancy at the beach or pool. A couple of weeks after I her, my legs and arms flared up so bad that I would constantly spend so much time picking at them both. Mine looked like acne and I have been put on desonide and amonium lactate. Neither helped a bit. Getting so flustered and after reading about how the suns helps, I decided to go to the tanning bed. My legs and arms look GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have just a few small ones here and there, but nothing like I had to where it spread all the way down to my calves. I know tanning beds are not good for you, but I was so desperate. I keep it up with a tanning session once a week. Hope this helps!!!!

I love the Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch sunblock. It doesn't even have the icky sunscreen feel- it's like a moisturizer, and it's spf 45, which is a big plus.
