I think I've got this...

Hey guys,

I was browsing the web this evening trying to figure out the "goosebumps" on the backs of my arms when I found out about KP. Luckily this site appears to have put some pieces of the puzzle together quite nicely, and I am now almost positive I've got this Rubra Faceii condition. I have a splotchy red face, mostly on the cheeks, with white areas around the mouth (looks kinda like a clown). I'm 19 years old and my parents keep telling me it's Rosacea, but Rosacea seems to be associated with eating certain foods and it seems to be accompanied by a lot of acne. I don't have much acne, but do have a constant reddish tone to my face, so I think I've got this. A quick question, does the face also have those bumps like under the arms, or can it be smooth with just the redness? Because my face is smooth, but red, and my arms have the "goosebumps".

I really think I've hit a breakthrough here as far as figuring out what I've got, and am interested to discover any treatment.

Thanks!
Dan

Hey,

Rosacea is NOT associated with eating certain foods, but some food can be triggers than make it worse. I think KPRF usually does comes with tiny little bumps on the cheeks and overall redness. Check a little closer and you might see them if you do in fact have KPRF

I have the same exact thing you described, basically red cheeks that are somewhat smooth. I also have pain with it though, and that's what kills me. I'm not even sure what I have now though, because if you go to almost any rosacea information site it will list a number of different subtypes of this condition. Some of them fit me, but so do the symptoms of KPRF. I will be visiting another dermatologist soon

If I were you I would find a good dermatologist so he can confirm any suspiscions you might have. It's very hard to try to diagnose someone from a description on the internet. Try to a find a dermatologist that is knowledgeable about Rosacea and KPRF, because many don't know much about these two and will just prescribe you steroid creams. If you can, go to more than one until you find someone competent. Some dermatologists are just not worth your time, as I have found.

Anyway, I wish you good luck

I agree with Steve - you guys who are not exactly sure if you have KPRF or roscacea (or both) need to get a diagnosis from a dermatologist that you are confident is correct.

From my own experience a lot of derms aren't that familiar with KPRF, KPAF and UO and often misdiagnose or undiagnose these conditions. Do a bit of research yourself, like Steve has, and try and find a derm that has experience with both conditions.

At the risk of repeating myself from other posts it took me 21 years and 6 dermatologists (which were all from different towns and were also from three different countries) to finally get a correct diagnosis. These guys were all experienced dermatologists but they are only human and sometimes don't get to see the rarer disorders.

Once you havea correct diagnosis you can treat the condition appropriately.
