Anyone else have skin like this???
My skin is ever changing but I'm wondering if anyone else has facial skin similar to mine.
First off, I have KPRF. I've had this since the beginning of high school and it has worsened over the years. It boggles the minds of any dermatologists I've seen. Below are pictures of my KPRF. Smaller Picture Close Up I also have UO (Ulerythema ophryogenes) affecting the eyebrows. My eybrows are very sparse and fall out on a regular occasion. They skin underneath my eyebrows is very flaky. I've never known how to treat this condition properly. Finally, I have a very oily T-Zone area. For some reason, I have not been able to reduce the oil produced in this region. I have tried product after product with no real help. After showering in the morning, my T-zone area will be very oily by early afternoon. It's annoying and nothing has helped. So these are the three areas that I have to deal with everyday aside from KP all over my body. It's not ever easy because somedays my KPRF will be tolerable but my UO and oily will be acting up badly or vice versa. I'm not sure if I should use different products on the different types of skin on my face or just find one that helps everything. I'm looking for suggestions and wondering if anyone else can relate to what I've described. Thanks again!!! |

Eucerin red relief works great for kprf. I have it too, and I can feel your pain, man. About the eyebrows...I have only noticed that very mildly during the summer. Is your case really severe? I think kprf makes the skin on the entire face much more dry than the skin on the rest of the body...

Justoman, how long have you been using the Eucerin Redness relief? How fast did it start working on minimizing the redness?
thats the only problem with my face now. The KP bumps are smoothened out, and aren't really noticable anymore(unless you are super close to my cheeks) I don't have any problem with my eyebrows. Matter of fact, I never heard of Ulerythema ophryogenes. All thats left is the redness in my cheeks that flare up. |

My face is almost exactly like yours. What we have is just UO and not KPRF. KRPF is when you have it only on your cheeks and it's a different varient. The only difference between your face and mine is that I don't have it on my nose or forehead(anymore). But my redness is quite abit worse especially above my eyes. I've had it since infancy, so that probably explains why my inflammation is worse. My t-zone is oily aswell, but I'd rather have oily skin than UO so I don't really mind it.

Accorddude, what have you been using to manage UO? Do you use any products on your eyebrows? What do you use for your cheeks? |

Thanks for posting the pictures. It is so hard to know what people actually have sometimes when they post. Your skin looks just like mine when I was in my teens/early twenties. Red KP bumps on the eyeborws and redness of the cheeks and even the ears. I don't know if this will help but at 45 I can share how my skin is now. The outer third of the eyebrows have lost their hair and are still red however the red kp bumps on the cheeks have gone just with age. (I have Atrophoderma vermiuclata also which has left my cheeks red and pitted). You may not loose any more eyebrow hair - I had lost all mine by about 16. So for me the eyebrows and red cheeks are still a problem and have been getting laser treatment for this which is slowly reducing the redness. The only thing that has helped my skin as far as cream goes is retina-a cream. You have to use only a small amount and it takes months to see results. Initially it makes your skin more prone to flushing but this wears off with use. It improves the texture of my skin and also keeps those odd persistant KP bumps on my eyebrows at bay. Unfortunately at your age I did not have a correct diagnosis (only told it was emotionally caused). The only treatment I had was to have the skin on my face burnt with liquid nitrogen on several different occasions. As you can expect it made no longterm difference. I am not sure if the retina-a cream will help you as your skin is at a different stage than mine but it may be worth talking to your derm about.

As for the Eucerin Redness relief...I took it yesterday for the first time and I am allready seeing immediate results. People have been asking where my crazy red cheeks went...and it feels great. Although, the key is to maintain a practice of using it regularly...because there really is no cure to kprf, besides age. Be sure to use the Eucerin in a really small amount, because if you use a lot, it builds up on itself. |

My brother has skin just like yours. He's had it since about 16 and he's now 37 and I don't know if he's ever tried anything to treat it or not. I first thought it was just a bad case of acne, but it's lasted so long and seems so much worse now. Seeing your photo makes me realize that it must be what you've got. If you discover any effective means for reducing the redness and bumps, I'd love to be able to help him out.

all the same
I have the same condition on my cheeks. But the worst part isn't that its my lack of eyebrow hair. I can't go anywhere without wearing a baseball cap low over my face, to hide in my missery. All my life people have been asking me if i shave or pluck my eyebrows. The years have weighed on me like a thousand bricks. I am considering a hair transplant treatment as soon as i can spare the cost. But becasue the skin around my eyebrows is soo flacky and my hairs falls out periodically i dont know if the procediere will be worth it.
As for the redness it really only effects my cheeks. it is slightly pink above my eyebrows as well. the redness most of the time stays under control. But other times can turn so dark they are maroon. the worst is when i have to talk to people in large groups or when i get embarressed. Working out, humid rooms, heat, the sun, spicey foods, alcohol, dehidration, stress can all set off my cheeks. It really does ruin my life. That, combined with a one two punch of not having much eyebrows really does effect my confidence, especially when it comes to meeting girls. I haven't had a girl friend since the 8th grade, i am now 23. Anytime a girl gets close i seem to push her away for fear of her realising what it is that i'm hiding. I take centrum vitamins advanced formula every morning and have noticed a huge improvement in my skin, i highly recommend it. I also use Eucerin Redness Relief. I does a great job of masking much of the redness giving me a healthy glow. Both of these combined have really helped me out. |

thanks for the post - interesting about the vitamins I have never really been into vitamins but am on a course of multivitamins at the moment and was wondering if they would help may skin - will wait and see. I have the lack of eyebrow hair and red skin also - it can really eat away at your selfesteem and make you selfconcious. I have been married for nearly 20 years and recently had laser treatment done for the redness which helped a bit but what was interesting is that my husband couldn't see why I needed it done as he says my skin is fine and thinks I look wonderful! I just want to encourage you not to push those people away because they obviously like you for who you are and like my husband aren't hung up on what they consider to be perfect skin. I believe having a condition like this actually develops you on the inside and that's what people see. All the best for the future.

Hi i have had the same problem since before i can remeber and it really does affect your self esteem, i was even called corn beef cheeks before (nice hey ) well all i can say is what an idiot that person was!! I went to specialists who told me it was acne rosacea, and that i should have intensive laser surgery, or something of that kind they explained it and it sounded very painfull, long process with not much results from what i could see from the pictures....... Anyway about 5 years later my sister went to a specialist with the same problem and was told it is not acne rosacea its KP. Well anyway I have just watched diet doctors on channel five they reckon its a defficiency in fatty acids so eat lots of oily fish, or linseed oil if your vegetarian and omega 3 and 6, along with multi vitamins!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ![]() ![]() Two weeks and you will se results, or so they say i will try it out and let you all know!! If thats true it will have made my year !! and hopefully it will help other too. if you want to look log on to : diet doctors chnnel 5 stats and facts |
