My redness is gone... completely
After dealing with this problem for about 8 months, I think I am finally cured! I started putting on SPF 45 sunscreen and after only 5 days, my redness is gone! When my doctor told me that it would work, I was skeptical, but sure enough, it worked! I can't garuntee that it will work for everyone, but if you have fair skin, I would recommend trying it. My doc said that my kp on my face was very mild and it was actually the light (sun and artificial) that was inflaming it and making it seem worse then it was.
BTW, go with a sunscreen that's oil free. |

What did your KPRF look like before the miraculous sunscreen? Would spf 30 be good enough?

with a white area in the middle of it. If SPF 30 is what you have, I'd go ahead and try it and see if it makes a difference. |

Dkwha you dont have KPRF, because sunscreen would NEVER work for kprf, i work outdoors and wear sunscreen alot and it does nothing but inflame kprf. Take your nonsense elsewhere and educate yourself about the condition. Dont write random **** to get peoples hopes up, we take this condition seriously.

He also said he only had the condition for 8 months. Obviously not KPRF.

I've been wearing sunscreen since dkwha first posted and it got a little bit better. But then I stopped using it for a day and a half and it got really bad. So I'm back on it now and it's getting slightly better.

We should all wear sunscreen fairly frequently regardless of the color of our faces, so I figure there's no harm in trying it. Thanks for your imput dkwha.

I have been on the suncreen for several days now and the KPRF has been significantly diminished. The sunscreen keeps the KPRF in the best part of the KPRF rollercoaster, which is more than any other treatment has done for me.

When I was in high school and college, I had a bad case of KPRF. People used to rub at my cheeks to try to remove the blush they thought I'd rubbed on too heavily.
After a doctor gave me a topical steroid for the KP on my body, it got far worse. (The damage that steroid did has plagued me for more than a dozen years, BTW: be very wary of such treatments. I was too young to understand what they were giving me or the possible side effects.) It was actually when I stopped using anything to treat my face that it got much better. I washed with a mild cleanser, but otherwise I left it alone. Soon, the skin on my face looked perfect. As time went by, I was able to introduce other facial care products, always monitoring the look of my skin and discontinuing those things that seemed to cause problems. I am certain that this won't work for everyone. But for anyone who is finding their conditioning worsening because of products they are using on their face, I recommend backing off from everything for a time. As for sunscreen, I agree with those who said we should wear that anyway. I wear it every day in the form of a facial moisturizer. Last edited by Galatea; 08-20-2006 at 04:46 PM. |

KPRF and KP in general often gets better with age - usually 20's onwards. I had bad kp on the arms, face and neck and now, except for the odd KP bump, there is no sign of them. No magic treatment just getting older. I agree that rubbing too many things into your skin can actually have a negative effect. Keep it simple i.e. a sunscreen for sensitve skin and a simple cleanser (I just use Dove soap for sensitve skin).
