It was tough to figure out at first. When I began to suffer erythema, there weren't any red "dots" to point out. But over the years, I assume that my hair follicles were being scarred which left the tell-tale signs. you won't really notice them when looking in the mirror, but when you stretch your face, the overall redness should turn pale, except for the spots of KP which remain red. I really didn't even know to check until I ran accross a KPRF sufferer on a Rosacea forum. I had been previously misdiagnosed with Rosacea. Unfortunately, and Ironically, Now I feel like I am developing rosacea due to the erythema and flushing associated with the KPRF.

Does everyone have KPRF on both cheeks? Previously, mine seemed to be on my right cheek. I also have KP on my forehead but not redness. I don't have any hair loss and never made the connection about the bumps on my forehead and the redness until I came to this site. It seems like I am now getting redness on the other side of my face near my eye and hairline. The bumps on my face are barely noticeable unless I look hard and it is the redness that really bothers me since I am so fairskined.

It sounds as if your KPRF came later in life for you. The reason I say that is because my redness started on one cheek and then spread to the other... But that was when I was 12. about 16 years ago. Really, the whole progression of the disease would be fascinating, except that I have to suffer through it. My mom said I had KP on my arms as early as 2. And that's all I suffered with until adolescence, when I started to become "pink cheeked" during exercise. Then the redness persisted. During Puberty, my KP spread to my love handles, chest, and upper thighs. Later on, in my late teens/early twenties, it spread to almost everwhere on my body except my hands, feet, and upper back. I should also note that the redness and flushing grew progressively worse on my face during those same years.
What about you? How did your KP progress? |
