Ladies: Lets talk makeup
So I have exhausted my search on makupalley regarding makeup that works for KPRF. Can we get some input, suggestions or recommendations on makeup products that seem to work with KPRF.
I will start! I have had the best luck with mineral makeup. I have tried Bare Escentials and was pleased with the coverage of red for part of the day, but it contains bismuth (sp?) which can cause some people to get irritatation and itching. That is what it did to me. Also, I do not really have oily skin, but it made by face seem shiny. I am trying everyday minerals right now and it seems to be working alot better than the other. I have been successful covering up the redness and getting a nice clear and even look to my face. I have had alot of comments in the last week or so about how "glowing" I look (I am pregnant) and how nice my makeup looks. When using mineral makeup, the application can take a while to figure out so you do not apply to much or the wrong color. But when you get it right, it can look really good. Lets try to get a list together of what has worked for others to help cover the redness and rash look. We could also get some info together on face cleansers, lotions etc. that do not make the KPRF worse ( not the ones we talk about here to get it to disappear, but rather that do not irritate further) Thanks and I hope we get some replies! |

I also use mineral make up and have found after years of trying to cover my bumps and redness that it has been the best so far. I have tried every powder foundation and bronzer known to man...honestly I love the bare minerals.

I use Arbonne's Mineral Powder Foundation (SPF 15) and their Intelligence Personalizer to give me a matte finish (It's a translucent light green powder compact that tones down redness and blotchiness). I know what you mean about getting used to applying it so you don't use too much! Make sure you tap the brush off! Once you get used to it, it really looks great! I'll never go back to liquid! No more clogged pores! YAY!

Hi - I have been cover up my red skin for 30 years and have found that the 'sheer cover' mineral makeup range has been the best for me. It comes with its own concealer and then you brush over the mineral power. My cheeks and eyebrows are very red yet this creates a real even tone to the point where people say I have a lovely skin! - I have just had pulse dye laser treatment for the 2nd time on the affected areas. This was 2 weeks ago and the red spots from the laser are still apparent however the makeup is marvellous in that it covers this up and allows me to go back to work while my skin continues to heal. For a cleanser I just use Dove soap for sensitive skin and Oil of Ulay with SP15 during the day. I live in NZ but i think Sheer Cover is an international brand.

Any experience of CoverFX, anyone?

The first thing I tried, which was a CoverGirl foundation, worked really well for me to cover up my KPRF. It still showed a little bit of pink so my skin didn't look plastered on and fake, but instead really natural.

Allison...we are so Arbonne junkies!
I use the same thing you do...Arbonne Mineral Foundation w/ the Personalizer. If I am in a hurry, I just use the Personalizer...I love it! I have oily skin (which has actually gotten better lately), so I put it on right after my lotion/before foundation.

Sometimes I forget to use the personalizer before my concealer, and end up getting it all over my personalizer pad! Ugh! I hate that! But I bought a 3 pack of new pads at Walmart to replace the ones that I ruin... They fit snugly into the compact, no problem.

I am pretty sure the Arbonne mineral makeup contains bismuth which is an unnessary additive (also in Bare Escentials mineral makeup) and can cause irritation and inflamation for tons of people, especially those with sensitive skin or redness issues.
The bismuth is only added to give the makeup a sheen and can actually make your face appear more oily. There are a number of mineral makeups out there without this nasty stuff. And by the way- if it doesn't cause irritation for you- GREAT! I have just talked to too many people with and without sensitive skin that have had big problems so steer clear if you already have facial redness issues! |

I just checked the website, and you may be right, depending on what shade you use, I guess... It says:
Active Ingredients: Titanium Dioxide mineral Sunscreen Zinc Oxide mineral SunscreenAlso Contains: Mica mineral Absorbent Powder Boron Nitride science Absorbent Powder Dimethicone science Emollient, Conditioner, Skin ProtectantMethylparaben science Preservative Propylparaben science Preservative May Contain: kind of enigmatic as to which ones "May contain" Iron Oxides mineral Colorant Bismuth Oxychloride mineral Colorant Titanium Dioxide mineral Colorant Zinc Oxide mineral Colorant And you're right, it doesn't cause any irritation for me (I'm not fair skinned though, and I use shade #6). However, it doesn't cause me any excess oily-looking-ness (??LOL) and they cite it as being used for a colorant, which makes me think it's only in certain shades. Mine is a neutral, so maybe it's in the cools or warms... I never would have even considered it, so thanks for the warning for everyone sensitive out there . Ooh! I should mention that Arbonne does "repeat patch insult tests" with all of their products and won't put a product out if it doesn't rate a zero on the 0-10 scale of allergic reaction (most "Hypoallergenic" products will be allowed with up to a 3 on that scale). Just thought you should know... ![]() Last edited by allisonsullivan; 08-04-2006 at 12:56 PM. |

I have just emailed Arbonne to find out the deal about the Bismuth. I am also going to call the main offices in CA to get more info. It doesn't irritate me, either, and I am a little fair skinned (I use #3). And even though Arbonne does do the 0 out of 10 testing, I am still not sure about the Bismuth. Since I love Arbonne and will always use it, I want to feel secure about the Mineral Foundation. So I will let you know when I talk to Arbonne about it.
Thanks for the info, flushed! |

No problem. Just wanted an FYI out there so people who know their own skin sensitivity do not go for a product containing a known irritant. Do you both have KPRF? I thought Allison did not have it on her face and only had KP but never the redness. What do you rec. for very sensitive skin with a serious redness issue? I do not really have the KP bumps on my face anymore but the redness drives me nuts. I have tried the Arbonne Intelligence (? does that sound right), but the lotion was way too heavy for daytime use and it did not help with the redness or the KPRF.
Is there something else your company carries that may work better? I am going to see a rep. on the 9th and want to know what to talk about specifically. Thanks!!!! |

I don't have KP on my face, I have cystic acne which leaves LARGE red and raised "volcanoes". I'm working on it... But I thought I'd chime in about what I like for makeup. I didn't mean to butt in... I just did a search for make-up and this thread came up. It never occurred to me that this was a KPRF discussion. I didn't really look at the top of the page. OOPS! sorry...

flushedface...
I have it on my face & neck. Not the bumps as much as the redness. And as far as Arbonne lotions go, I like the NutriminC RE9 Day Creme probably better than any other I have used, which includes the Intelligence face lotion. I used to have really oily skin, but after using the NutriminC line, it is more balanced now, which is weird since it is an anti-aging line. You would think it would make my skin more oily. It doesn't take much of the lotion, though...a little goes a long way. Ask your Rep if they have any samples of the NutriminC RE9 line...and get some of the same line for your body if you have not tried them yet. They are great!

Thanks Arbonne ladies! Allison- I was not pushing you out of the talk!!! Every post can be helpful, I just wanted to make sure that I was getting a rec. for my specific KPRF. It sounds like Janae and I have the same issues with the redness. Janae- do you have sensitive skin? Just want to know if there is anything in this Nutriminc that could irritate my skin more. I am very sensitive. Maybe I used too much of the lotion. I will try again.
Thanks again! You are both very helpful. |
