From what i've gathered, pretty much everything causes it to get worse before seeing any improvement.

Any product with acids in it(glycolic,urea..etc..) will irritate your skin and make the inflammation worse. Your skin will adjust over time and the irritation will get less noticable. But acids are not an effective treatment for KPRF.

Also mites have absolutely nothing to do with keratosis pilaris.

Also forgot to mention that any acid that adds to the existing inflammation of KP will accelerate angiogenesis in facial tissue. Angiogenesis is the growth of new blood vessels. This will make the redness and possibly scarring worse in the long run.

Obviously i'm not a dermatologist, however i think i'm in agreement with accorddude in that i don't think mites have anything to do with kp, however i could be wrong. The thing that makes me nervous about treating the mites is that it could possibly be dangerous because from what i've read, mites are actually essential to our skin as they feed on dead cells, therefore eliminating them could potentially make kp worse as kp is a result of excess skin cells clogging the hair follicles. Mites are found in 95% of the population which means they are a normal aspect of humans, thats just my opinion though.

Your very sure of yourself accorddude. Have you got evidence of the matter of fact statements you kindly share with us? I myself haven't yet managed to speak with every dermatologist and and researcher into kp in the world, but would love to hear further into all their findings.

I had a two week patch test with various nastys and chemicals attached to my back which lasted for 2 weeks.

This was to determine what affects my KP.

The only one which came up with a possivetive reations was mite droppings and not the mites themselves.

Sounds nasty i know but i have had many tests/biopsys and products over a 2 year period to help find something which helps kp.

I have had this condition now for 4 years and nothing seems to work.

Arrow Patch Test?

Littlepaws - I have just came from a visit to a dermatologist, my first ever about my skin and he is testing me for skin allergies. (Patch Test)

Monday - Test area will be marked with magenta paint, and covered with adhesive tape.

Wednesday - Remove covering tape and tape containing patch test substances. Make sure the markings beside each patch test substance are still visible. You can mark these again with felt tip pen if they are fading.

Thursday - You will see the doctor who can record any skin reactions and advise you on the results.

Can anyone tell me if they have had this done, and what happened?

I'm wondering if one of the reasons we haven't been able to find a cure is that when our KPRF starts to get any worse, we tend to give up and move on to another product. At least I know I'm like that.

I've read many things that make me believe that it has to get worse before it gets better. If that's true then it would be extremely hard as we can't imagine to have to deal with KPRF on an even greater level. It's already tough enough to deal with and we change our lives dramatically because of it.

How long have any of you tried something when it continued to get worse? I probably haven't lasted more than a few weeks if I felt my skin wasn't improving.

Maybe we are just looking for an instant cure, which would be nice but it probably won't just happen like that.

My sister had terrible acne at one point. She used ProActiv and before it got any better, it got much worse. But the difference is that ProActiv has been proven to improve the condition over time. It seems like we just haven't found a product that will do that. Maybe we all just need to be more patient when we try things. It's hard but maybe that's what will really help us rule out products or not.

I agree with you Prager. The only medicated cream I use at the moment is a retina-A type cream called 'retinova'. I must mention that most of my kprf and kp have vanished with age and that I still have the odd bump around my eyebrows (ulerythema ophryogenes) and roughness and redness of the cheek area due to atrophoderma vermiculata.

I imagine this works a bit like the AHA creams that have been successful for some people. As they are both acids they must unplug the pores by slothing off the outer layer of dead skin.

When I started using this cream my skin got redder (I have heard this posted about AHA's also) - but what did I do? - put my hands up in horror and say this is no good and throw it away. No I eased back on the cream a bit until my skin got used to it. I now use a little bit each night on my facial skin (probably the amount of cream equal to a small pea). If my skin seems a bit sensitive I will skip a night. This has helped the texture and I believe the tone of my skin - It hasn't got rid of the redness caused by atrophoderma v (laser treatment is the only thing I know that will work on that)

Turquoise had such good results as she stuck with the AHA treatment for a year. If I still had KPRF I would start with a low concentration AHA cream and keep with it for at least 2-3 months (only increasing it as my skin tolerated it). It has taken a long time for your skin to build up the bumps so don't expect them to vanish overnight (it would be nice) - but the skin is a living organ and needs to be treated patiently. I don't mean to go on but I believe a lot of people are missing out on some of these successful treatments posted as they are not willing to do the hard yards and stick with treatment for a long period of time. Don't give up
