Anybody tried Proactiv?

This morning my mom suggested that I try Proactiv for my KPRF. Both of my younger sisters have used Proactiv for their acne and had great success. I'm a little skeptical that it would even work with KPRF because our condition really isn't acne.

So has anyone tried Proactiv for their KPRF?

Any other thoughts on this?

Thanks!

It depends on what variant of KP that you have. If you have:

1.ulerythema ophryogenes-this term is used to refer to severe KP on the face. It does not just refer to the eyebrows. I'm not sure where this forum got it's naming convention from.

http://www.emedicine.com/DERM/topic741.htm

If you have this version then Proactive will not help. Every hair follicle in the affected area is plugged and using chemicals to unplug them will only irritate the skin. If your have this version you will have extensive facial involvement aswell as redness/flushing.

2.KPRF-used to describe random KP on the face mostly the cheeks. This version has far less involvement and isn't nearly as sensitive. Proactive can help to flatten the surface of the bumps to improve the skin's appearence. It is by no means a permenent solution though.

KP starts from the inside of the hair follcile. Below the surface where topical creams are actually effective. This means that creams can't really do much but flatten the bumps/soften the outer most layer of skin. They can't actually open the hair follicle and make it fuction like normal.

Accorddude,

I didn't know that ulerythema ophryogenes referred to more than just the eyebrows.

I've always thought that I have ulerythema ophryogenes on my eyebrows and rubra faceii on my face.

According to you, KPRF is random KP on the face. Does this refer to redness too?

I have very sensitive red cheeks and have always thought that I have KPRF since I've first visited this forum.

Enlighten me please What are the differences in look and texture of the two conditions?

Thanks

I tried proactive on both my arms and my face. It made little difference to my cheeks (I was hoping it might even out the redness a little...)
and it did very little for my arms either except make them feel smoother.
So basically, nothing an exfoliant wouldn't do.

Prager34 you have UO version. I just noticed you posted your picture in this forum.

KPRF is more like the pictures another memeber posted in the link below.

I think this will help

This version is far less involved in terms of plugging and redness. It's like having a very mild case of acne.

Wow, this is all news to me. So you are saying that from my picture you think that I have the more severe form of it?

Okay well this truly helpful. Maybe all along we've all been getting confused with each other because we don't all share the same type of skin.

What do you say about these pictures then?

Google Images

My face looks just like these pictures and alot of the medical journals show these pictures that look so similar to my face?

What do you think?
