laser treatment
Hey, i have redish/flushed checks all the time but im not 100% sure if its Keratosis pilaris: rubra faceii or Erythematotelangiectatic rosacea, its definetly one of the two. How do u determine what one it is??
Also i was considering getting laser treatment on my checks, to reduce/remove the redness. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if laser treatment would affect the growth of hair in the areas that have had the treatment, like will my beard still grow normally, or will there be patches missing?? And after laser treatment does your 'red skin' match the normal colour of your face or is it a more pale colour as the skin hasnt been exposed to sunlight. someone please help me!! |

I've had 10 laser treatments and they do nothing for KPRF. And they hurt a lot, so you'd better be sure you have rosacea before you consider laser because you might regret it later. Not only is it painful, but it leaves your skin flushed for a few hours afterward. The really harsh laster treatments left me with swelled 'chipmunk' cheeks, blisters and little round bruises that looked like bad acne. As for the hair, I have no idea. I'm a girl and don't have facial hair.

I've had 3 laser treatments for my KPRF. One IPL/Photoderm treatment that did nothing at all. IPL is not well suited for KPRF because it's not an actual laser and the treatment can be done by anyone. IPL treatments will remove hair because that is what is was originally desinged to do.
Then I had 2 V-Beam/pulsed dye laser treatments. These did help with the redness and mostly with the swelling I'd get in my inner face. This is an actual medical laser that has to be done by a doctor. The effectiveness of your laser treatments is basically dependent on the doctor doing them. Alot of doctors won't use higher settings so you have to keep coming back for more and more treatments. Stay away from any cosmetic clinics or doctors. Get your treatments done at a hospital by a well trained doctor if it's available. |

I had 6 V-Beam treatments. My doctor was a highly regarded specialist in Charlotte, NC. She wasn't very nice, but she was a good dermatologist. She lasered the **** out of my face. I was bruised, swollen and had pus-filled blisters. It helped a little with the habitual redness, but when I found out it would do nothing about the flushing, I stopped going because that is what I really wanted help with. I've had 4 IPL treatments and I stopped going to them because they didn't help either. I've basically stopped going to any dermatologist because they've failed to help me.

v-beam laser
Hi
V-beam laser is the only permanent proven treatment for atrophoderma vermiculata (I am not sure if this is what you americans call KPRF - but is it the red, pitting of the cheeks - can also be now an honeycomb atrophy). I encourage you to do some research on this. Use google and type in 'atrophoderma vermiculata' and laser treatment. As someone has pointed out not all lasers are created equal so don't write them all off. Test have been done in Wales and Washington with successful result. You can research the medical journal articles on these which have detail info on laser used, no. of treatments and decrease in erythema (redness). I have had one treatment and am going for my second next month. This is using a V-beam pulse dye laser. As far as I understand the laser normalises the blood vessels and removes the unnatural redness. If you are serious about getting treatment for redness I would copy the above mention medical articles and take them to a dermatologist to discuss if treatment is right for you. |

I had v-beam laser treament at the highest setting possible, left me swollen bruise and extremely painful.
After about 2 weeks of healing everything was back to normal. No results what so ever. Expensive treament and does nothing for KP. |

It worked for me. 5 Vbeam-treatments and approx. 50% decreased redness on my cheeks. But, it's very expensive... I payed 3300 SEK (~440USD) per treatment.
How much do you pay in the US? |

Laser treatment
Just thinking when talking about 'lasers' you really need to say what type was used, by who (i.e. derm or beauty clinic) and how long ago. this is because there are so many different types of lasers and recent models are better than older ones. The v-beam pulse dye laser is the laser of choice for redness. I had treatment done with an older model 3 years ago and there was some improvement. I have had another lot of treatment done 2 weeks ago and my skin is still healing so hard to say exact results yet. Also you probably need to state what condition it is being used to treat. I have UO which has left red scarring on eyebrow area and Atrophoderma vermiculata which has left red scarring on the cheeks. I have never heard lasers used to treat normal KP or KP bumps on the face - they are used to treat abnormal blood vessels - i.e. the v-beam is the laser of choice for portwine stains. I stand by laser use for the conditions I have as they do work however I have seen no documentation stating they are useful in treating KPRF. If it is any consolation I had bad KP on my face and arms also in my teens and twenty's and at 44 this is entirely gone. However the UO and AV have damaged the blood vessels beneath the skin and the laser is the only way to deal with this - unfortunately for me drinking carrot juice will not fix the vessels.

When do carrot juice have any effect? And how does it work?
