cant understand it...
i was thinking last night during one of my daily flushing sessions about why there has been no research into this. i cant quite understand how difficult it would be to take a plug of skin from the cheek area maybe and do a few tests on it because they must be able to see the difference between sum1 with KPRF and someone without under a microscope? then maybe they could at least explain what it is that causes it and we could look inot trying to combat it. im not sure how difficult this is for them(by them i mean docs and derms) so if any1 on here is a medical student/doctor then please do say.
another thing i was thinking about whilst browsing the archives of the site was the effectiveness of maybe somethiong like botox? any thoughts are most welcome! mark |

Well...
1: People fund cancer research not red face research 2: Funds needed are VERY expensive 3: They already know it's caused by excess keratin You get some red bumps on your arms etc. But since you have like 50x as many pores on your face, if you're unfortunate enough to have it on your face your whole face just looks red. well at least the cheeks. I'm fortunate enough to just be red and not bumpy |

The cause of KP and KPRF is already known. It's a disfunction of the sebum gland within the hair follicle. IT IS NOT CAUSED BY EXCESS KERATIN PRODUCTION. Without sebum the follicle cannot stay open. The cells build up in the follicle causing it to plug. Sebum is the natural acidic oil your skin produces. The cure for KP will be a way to stimulate and keep the sebum glands functioning. I've done alot of research on sebum glands and this does not appear to be an easy task.

interesting.. so it's almost opposite from acne? instead of excess sebum it's not enough?
Couldn't some kind of hormone or steroid cream do that? |

I'm going to OHSU in march so they can research my KPRF that will take place over a period of a few months, so I hope i can get some results by then. Its just nice to know somebody is willing to study it and try to find a cure. So cross your fingers and we'll see what happens. Maybe this time we'll get some answers.

Wait. You don't have to do that. I'll go in your place and save you the trouble
