Question Those of you with kprf...

I'm trying to get a clear understanding of what keratosis pilaris rubra faceii really looks like.

Is your face a constant pinkish/redish?

Or is it only that way sometimes and you also have a normal complexion?

It is centralized in your cheeks or located somewhere else too?

Do you have a little strip of white skin on your cheeks?

Is it worse closer to your nose or worse more toward the sideburn?

Can you live with it?

There will also be a follow up poll coming soon.

Is your face a constant pinkish/redish?

Yes

Or is it only that way sometimes and you also have a normal complexion?

--Always a splotchy pink to deep red.

It is centralized in your cheeks or located somewhere else too?

--The redness is only on my cheeks, except for the KP on pretty much my entire body except my hands and feet.

Do you have a little strip of white skin on your cheeks?

--Yes, I would say that I have a red doughnut on each cheek with a white patch in the middle.

Is it worse closer to your nose or worse more toward the sideburn?

--It is worst on the "apples" of my cheeks, but my sideburns are red as well. Most of the pain associated with flushing is on the "apples"

Can you live with it?

--When I am flushing, no. If I was constantly flushed, I probably would do anything to stop the pain.

Is the skin on your cheeks really dry?

Have you ever compared your condition to rosacea because many of the symptoms are the same?

What triggers you to flush?

How long does the flush last?

Do you ever have burning stinging or tingling?

What do you use to wash your face?

What do you use to moisturize?

Any topical medications?

Is the skin on your cheeks really dry?

--Yes, the red parts of my face never sweat.

Have you ever compared your condition to rosacea because many of the symptoms are the same?

--Yes, I was originally diagnosed with rosacea, but after visiting rosacea forums, somebody suggested that my symptoms sounded more like KPRF. Sure enough, it was. I had never associated the red bumps all over my body with the redness on my face.

What triggers you to flush?

--Sun, Heat, Cold, Exercise, stress, concentration. Then there are foods like pickles, onions, pepper, and "spicy" food of all sorts.

How long does the flush last?

--My flushes typically last an hour or longer.

Do you ever have burning stinging or tingling?

--Tingling, which signals the beginning of an intense BURNING that is worse than any sunburn I had ever received. It's horrible. The pain doesn't allow me to concentrate on anything.

What do you use to wash your face?

--I used plain water for the longest time. It seemed as if every soap caused a reaction. I have found that clinique makes the most gentle cleansers.

What do you use to moisturize?

--I live in South Florida, so although I have to put up with the heat, thankfully the humidity keeps my skin moist, however, I use Coppertone spectra 3 sun block which is one of the few that my skin tolerates well, and keeps my face moisturized.

Any topical medications?

--I have used metro-gel, but that really only helps guard against any papules that develop when I flush for many consecutive days in a row. Onset of rosacea I suppose.
