Alpha Hydroxy Acids

I just got am lactin last week, and it seems to have made my face so red and seems to have made the roughness even worse. It is playing hell with my mind, that i dont want to goto school or work, but i force myself and am selfconsious all day.....constantly thinking people are looking at me and its nuts.....this is making me depressed....

Anyways, is the increased roughness because the keratin is breaking down and working, and i should just stick with it, or am i wasting my time and just making a bad situation worse. I dont have paupels on my face, just red and rough. YOu can see the keratin on my face up close. Seems like it definatly was chaning but for the worse.

I stopped using it and it got a tad better. I am about to tan now.

Should i stick with it or dump it. If i keep using it, do u think i will smooth out?

****!

I read in another post that alpha hydrox acids are a waste of time and just make condition redder and worse.

Who else has used am-lactin/lachydrin on their face?

From the sound of it, it seems as if we have the exact same texture and look to the skin on our faces. The skin on my cheeks is rough and red.

I personally was prescribed Am Lactin for the kp on my arms and legs and decided to try it on my face. I got the same results as you did.

I don't think that the stuff prescribed for regular kp works on kprf. At least it hasn't for me anyways.

Did you go tanning while you were still using the Lactin product or after you had stopped?

Doesn't the warmth of a tanning bed make your face flush. I've never tried it but it probably would for me.

Alpha Hydroxy's should be used in small "doses" to start. What's the percentage in the cream? Initially (even for those with "normal" skin) there can be redness and irritation. It SHOULD go away with use, but if it's too irritating I would stop using.

Ok, just looked up AmLactin. Personally (knowing about alpha hydroxys) would change to a low % glycolic product to start off with. Another thing is AmLactin contains Mineral Oil which doesn't really moisturize the skin, it just sits there until washed off. With Alpha Hydroxy's you really need them in a moisturizing base.

Here's the fda's take on AHA products:

http://vm.cfsan.fda.gov/~dms/fdacaha.html

If you want a lactic acid product look for one that also contains hyaluronic acid which is naturally found in your skin (it's a moisturizer).

Re: Alpha Hydroxy Acids

Do NOT use it while tanning!
I did and I was itchy like HECK.
It was PURE torture. x.x;;

{Yes, very dumb thing to do.}

Anyways, just a warning :}

Cheers

Re: Alpha Hydroxy Acids

Try tanning a few days after you stop the aha's. pesonally for me, for the last few days u have been using a salycilic acid astrigent pads(like those clearisil acne control exfolaiting pads) waiting a few minutes and putting on "Lac Hyrdin" an AHA lotion, which is very inexpensive btw=) its only been 2 days, but i have already started to see a slight improvement it doesnt look as...harch anymore. A little less notocable. Oh i have also been exfolaiting with rough cloth before showering.

Wow i got off topic. lol what ui ment to say was that you shouldnt use AHA while in any light exposure, so tanning is out. AHAs dont respind well with light and damages the skin over time. personally, i dont go out in the sun alot and dont tan, so im just like "oh well" but try to avoid the sun or tanning while using AHA's some say it will geive you an increased risk of skin cancer.

luck

tanning will ruin your skin/body worse than kp ever could. and tanning while using AHAs or shortly after stopping the use of them is absolutely the worst thing you can do. it is warned against!

Re: Alpha Hydroxy Acids

am-lactin/lachydrin is for the body (skin) and irritates facial skin especially if you have KPRF.
