Mauicat about to give up

Hi, I am a new member. Began picking about 10 years ago and I don't remember why except I may have had some unrecognized stress. Now I am scarred and will have periods of a sort of remission and then here the bumps come again. What's up with this? I also have stock in BandAids and have seemed to try every lotion, potion I can get my hands on. I also have Hashimotos thyroidits which affects the skin as well.....Any advice?

Re: Mauicat about to give up

MC,

I hate to say this, but for picking, try wearing long sleeves. They work. Once you can stop picking, sun exposure and moisturizing will help the scarring diminish, though it may take a year to see results. This worked for me.

As far as remission, when your bumps seem to stop, have you carefully considered your diet? When I go "off diet" -- mostly processed carbs ( white flour, white rice, etc.) and anything with sugar -- a few bumps return. There is a delay of a few days, so when I see bumps, I have to remember what I ate 2 or 3 days before. My body is talking to me and I have to listen to it!

Sorry, I have no experience withHashimotosthyhroiditis

Hope this helps.

Mauicat - are you on meds for the hypothyroidism caused by HT? or other meds for treating the immune-system? That could be important before we all start throwing advice at you. Do you do any specific nutritional things, tried any alternative treatments, etc?
Here's a search for the word "thyroid" on these forums. You may wish to poke thru the posts (click on thhe posts title, not the thread titles, they show in green italic on my screen) and see what other's have posted - I believe some KPers discuss the link:

Re: Mauicat about to give up

Thank you for your reply. Yes,I had better start seriously looking into the dietary connection. I have to take Synthroid for the hypothyroidism, but can't seem to get the Dr's to talk to me seriously about the scratching, skin problem, etc. They just look at me like I am crazy, although I didn't spend my whole life with this problem.....
