Hello everyone!
I'm a 19 year old girl from Maryland. I've had KP for quite a while. It used to be just on the backs of my upper arms, and it was very hard to see. Now, I have an extremely visible case on the backs of my upper arms, my thighs, and my butt. I also have a light case of it on my lower legs and lower arms. I originally went to a dermatologist about these slow-spreading red bumps and I was told that it was just "dermatitis". I was instructed to apply lotion; lots of it, and frequently. I tried this for months and months, to no avail. I finally did a Google search for dermatitis, only to find that it's a VERY broad term for any skin irritation. I eventually found this site, printed some descriptions and pictures, and went to my family doctor. She totally agreed with me; she said she couldn't have done a better job diagnosing me. She's prescribed me a lotion of Eucerin and 0.1% Triamcin (which is a steroid, I'm told). I've been applying it twice a day (for about 2 weeks now), as instructed, and it isn't really helping. Sure, it makes my skin look better for an hour or so after I put it on, but those darned bumps re-appear so quickly! Not to mention that the lotion itself feels gross. It's like trying to rub white glue into my skin, and it leaves my skin greasy for hours. I've read up on the sea buckthorn treatment, and I'm about 2 minutes away from ordering a bar of the soap. I hope that works for me. I do have one question about the treatment, however: How is the shampoo/conditioner on color treated hair? I'm sure that seems like a petty concern, but with my skin all red and bumpy, I pride myself on at least keeping my hair looking good. Is it necessary to treat your scalp? Are there any different prescriptions that have worked for anyone that I could discuss with my doctor? Any advice would be immensely appreciated! -Am |

Re: Hello!
I forgot to mention this is my main post, but I'm also a type 1 diabetic. I know that diabetes can goof up your immune system, and I've read that a compromised immune system can contribute to KP.

Re: Hello!
Amoryte,
Welcome to the KP Forum. If your specific sea buckthorn question is not answered here, I suggest you post it again on the sea buckthorn thread. I hope it helps you -- please let us know. Keep in touch. kebod |
