Don't hurt the newbie. =)

Hi, everyone!

I'm MeeLee (for anonymity purposes) and I'm 19 years old, from California. I've actually had KP pretty much for as long as I can remember, though I had no idea what it was until I decided to do some extensive research on the internet today. I do have to admit, though, that I'm quite relieved that this condition is relatively common and that I'm not the only one experiencing it.

With that said, then, having KP has never really bothered me, or the people I hang out with. I have a pretty bad case of it all down my legs and a milder case on my upper arms, but I wear shorts and tank tops just like any other student. =) In fact, most people don't even notice anything different about my skin unless I actually point the bumps out to them, in which case we all agree that it just looks like goosebumps.

I've never sought treatment, nor do I intend to as it doesn't interfere much with my life. I understand that some of you may have different versions of KP that are painful and probably more obvious, but I felt like I should let you all know that not everyone has to panic about it and treat it like a stigmatizing condition. Me, I'll just wait to grow out of it and see what happens. =)

To the mods: thank you so much for the information on KP; it was really helpful! =)

MeeLee,

I think you are right about most people not noticing the bumps. We are our own worst critics.

For me, KP was mild and I just accepted it as part of me. I started oil pulling to see what it would do, and it reduced my KP by about 80-90%, something I never expected. When I told my husband OP had made a difference, he said he never noticed that I had bumpy arms and cheeks (and I had never told him!)
